Having ended their home season on a fruitful note, Team India has a tough assignment awaiting them. The team will be playing Australia in their own backyard. They will be facing a depleted Australia is in a four-match Test series starting next month. The Aussies are grappling with their form in the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner. However, former pacer Ryan Harris doesn’t expect to see many changes in the squad.

Despite the poor performances against Pakistan and South Africa, Harris expects the squad to be pretty much similar. “I don’t think there will be too many changes,” Harris told SEN (Melbourne radio station). But, he has a few suggestions regarding the batting lineup and the changes that they have to make in their XI. His biggest concern seemed to be the form of Mitchell Marsh.

Ryan Harris doesn’t want Mitchell Marsh at four

During the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan, Marsh batted at number four thrice. However, he only managed to get 17 runs at that position and 30 runs overall in four innings. Hence, Harris feels that he should be back batting at five or six where he usually bats.

“The only thing I’d change, personally, I don’t think Mitchell Marsh is a No.4. With Matt Renshaw, he should come back in at the top, and pushes Marsh down to five or six”. With quite a few openings at the moment, it is a wonderful opportunity for any youngster to break into the national team. There have been talks about players like Jason Sangha and Jack Edwards, who are doing extremely well in the domestic circuit to be pushed into the senior side. However, Harris wants these players to perform more consistently before getting into the team.

“I’ve heard it said a number of times. If you’re at Shield level now and you’re making hundred after hundred after hundred there’s a big carrot there if you want to take it,” Harris said.

“If someone is doing that, there’s been a couple of guys already who have made a good start to the season, if they’re doing that consistently then who knows, their opportunity might come. They are hopefully going to be superstars. But let’s let them earn it first and get them to average around 40 in first-class cricket,” he stated.
