There is no denying about the fact that Team India had their one eye on the Australia tour when playing against the Windies at home. The squad was also picked keeping the stern test in mind and the 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw was handed over a debut so that he will be ready to face the music down under. However, Umesh Yadav was the hero of the second Test and the way he made the ball reverse has impressed Sunil Gavaskar who wants him to play in the Adelaide Test now.
India will embark on their Australia tour in November and will first play three T20 Internationals. It is very much possible that the red-ball specialists may reach early and play a warm-up game in order to get used to the conditions. Also, the Kookaburra ball is used down under which the Indian bowlers find it tough to bowl with soon.
As far as Umesh is concerned, he was exceptional in the Hyderabad Test and stepped up to the task being the only pacer after Shardul Thakur was ruled out due to injury early on Day 1.
It is not a small achievement
Sunil Gavaskar is mighty impressed with Umesh’s performance and has backed him to do well in Australia. He advocated for the fast bowler to play in Adelaide where the first of the four-match Test series will be played from December 6. “Picking up ten wickets in a Test in India no small achievement. I would want to see Umesh playing in the XI in Adelaide Test,” he said while speaking to Aajtak after India’s victory in Hyderabad.
Umesh returned with the magical figures of 10/133 in the match which is his best performance in the whites. Moreover, the fact that he did it in India where the pacers don’t get much help usually has grabbed everyone’s eyeballs. Even the skipper Virat Kohli has admitted that his excellent show has given the team a happy headache in the bowling department.
