India completed a stunning comeback to expectedly seal the Melbourne Test against Australia on Tuesday. It took a session and an hour for them to wrap things up and level the series. The exhilarating contest now moves to the third Test which will either by played in Sydney or Melbourne itself from January 7, 2021. The visitors, meanwhile, will be strengthened with Rohit Sharma available for the last two Tests.
He is set to join the team on Wednesday and there will be a little bit of a selection headache for the Indian team ahead of the crucial third Test. Rohit Sharma opened the innings last time he played Test cricket. But with Shubman Gill doing well on his debut, it remains to be seen who goes out from the team to accommodate him.
Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, meanwhile, feels that Rohit should continue to open the innings for India along with Mayank Agarwal. He also added that Hanuma Vihari should be left out of the team while Gill can be shifted to the middle-order position. “I will have Mayank – Rohit opening, Gill in middle order and Vihari goes out for the third Test,” he said while speaking after the match on Sony Sports Network.
Who will be dropped to accommodate Rohit Sharma?
Now that the team has won the Melbourne Test, will India make any changes to the line-up? But Rohit Sharma is too good a player to be sitting out and after so much anticipation, he will be itching to play the last two Tests. But the team management will have to fret over the playing making way for him. Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari are the only two players in the firing line as they have struggled in all four innings.
Whoever gets dropped, it will be unfair on him as both the players did well last time they toured Australia. Going by the popular opinion, Vihari could be the one to be left out with the management likely to back Agarwal to come good while Rohit Sharma might even bat at five as Gill did extremely well opening the innings on debut.
