Team India’s injury woes continue Down Under and this time it’s their pace spearhead, Umesh Yadav. Team India already have had lost the services of Mohammed Shami in the middle of the first Test and Ishant Sharma even before the Test series started. Men in Blue now have the only option left in the form of Navdeep Saini.

Umesh Yadav complained about the pain in the calf muscle while bowling his fourth over on Day 3. He could bowl only three balls in that over and the remaining three balls were bowled by Mohammed Siraj. He was limping off the field and could not carry on with his bowling further in the day.

The paceman picked up the Australian opener Joe Burns, who is struggling to find his form, for just four runs with a delivery that moved away after hitting the deck which caught the outside edge and straight into the keeper’s gloves. He is being assessed by the BCCI medical team and will undergo scans to determine the severity of his injury, confirmed BCCI.

India has limited stand-in options to replace Umesh Yadav

Team India could just add 49 runs to their overnight score of 277 and ended up with 326 runs in the first session of day three of the second Test. Ravindra Jadeja brought up his fifty and no one really carried on after his dismissal. Among the Australians, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon picked three wickets each. Pat Cummins picked two wickets and the star from the first Test Josh Hazlewood could manage only a single scalp.

Australia has a lead of just two runs with four wickets left in hand going into Day 4 of the second Test. India will be looking to clean up the tail and get a small target to chase which would help them to level up the series with two more matches to follow
