Australia vs India: Upset Tim Paine enquires with the umpire after KL Rahul handles the ball
Paine is feeling the heat it seems.
Indian batting resisting well in the second innings has certainly irked the Australians. Things are heating up out in the middle with the Aussie fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood also trying to get under the batsmen’s skin. Meanwhile, there was also a moment of tension even as the Australia captain Tim Paine looked upset with KL Rahul handling the ball and tried to enquire with the on-field umpire about the same.
The incident happened in the 18th over of India’s second innings during Nathan Lyon’s opening spell. Rahul defended the fourth ball of the over carefully as it died on him after hitting the pads. The batsman then himself picked up the ball and threw it back to the bowler maybe to help the opposition. At the same time, Tim Paine, the wicket-keeper, was coming to pick up the ball as he expected for Rahul to give the red cherry to him.
But it seemed like the Indian opener just ignored the Aussie captain at that stage which probably irked Paine. He wasn’t entirely pleased with what transpired and tried to enquire with the umpire and then also had a word with the close-in fielder during the course of the over. Surely, that wasn’t an appeal from him but it was evident that Paine is feeling the heat of the high-intensity Test series with his team on the back-foot.

India two down
However, after a good start in the second innings, India have lost their openers in quick succession. After adding 63 runs for the opening wicket, Mitchell Starc nipped out Vijay while Rahul played a rather lose shot trying to drive uppishly off Josh Hazlewood. Currently, the intriguing battle is in progress as two of India’s best batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli are out in the middle with the game hanging in the balance.
