With 0-1 down in the three-match series, India had to make a statement in order to come back in the contest in the second T20I. They did so with some incisive bowling after winning the toss and Australia crumbled under pressure. They huffed and puffed to 132/7 in 19 overs and the rain stopped play to never resume again. However, the heavens had opened even before and the Indian captain Virat Kohli was agitated with the umpires.
Normally, the on-field umpires take the players off if the rain is too heavy as according to the ICC rules for the playing conditions, once you go off, then the play can’t be resumed until the rain completely stops. The officials of the game, Simon Fry and Gerard Abood, thought it was a passing shower and only felt appropriate to continue with the proceedings in the middle.
However, Kohli was not pleased even a bit with this and was involved in a heated discussion with the umpire who tried to calm him down even in the rain. The incident took place during the 19th over which Jasprit Bumrah was delivering and despite Kohli questioning, the play wasn’t stopped.

Clarke agrees with Kohli
Eventually, the covers had to be brought to be on at the end of the 19th over as it started pelting down at the MCG. Meanwhile, the former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke who was in the commentary box agreed with Virat Kohli as more rain would’ve made the pitch wetter making it tough to bat for India.
As far as the match is concerned, the play never resumed after it was stopped. India would’ve felt hard done as they were robbed off a chance of levelling the series. The third and final match of the series will be played on Sunday now at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
