Australia vs New Zealand: Spectators at Perth stadium left with sour taste in mouth due to dodgy chicken

The Optus Perth Stadium is hosting the first Test match between Australia and New Zealand under the lights. The match has been dominated by the home team as they look set to win the encounter after putting up a stiff target of 468 runs for the Kiwis. However, both the teams have also seen their share of injuries, with Lockie Ferguson injuring himself on debut and Josh Hazlewood also hurting his hamstring.

Meanwhile, the spectators at the stadium were treated to some top-quality batting by both sides. Marnus Labuschagne scored his third century in three Tests. There were half-centuries from Travis Head, Joe Burns, and Labuschagne again, in the due course of the game, as the home side dug in deep to pocket the advantage. Starc’s fifer kept Kiwis to 166 in reply to Australia’s 416, despite Ross Taylor’s 80 runs. However, a bigger shock awaited the fans and spectators at the ground on day four.

Uncooked Chicken leads to a health hazard in Perth Stadium

The fans eagerly took their seats to watch the Kiwis’ chase of 468 runs and in hopes of Australia winning the match by a big margin. However, they wouldn’t have hoped to see their lunch been disturbed in such a gross manner. During the first session of day four, the spectators were greeted with a disturbing sign, which read, “If you have purchased any Sandwiches, Wraps or Salads containing chicken at the stadium today, please present back to the outlet of purchase immediately.”

A spokesperson clarified that there were no reports of any illness. “One of the staff saw what they thought was uncooked meat in a wrap. We’ve [since] pulled all of the wraps from the shelves,” he was quoted as saying by perthnow.com.au. He estimated that under 20 of the chicken wraps had been sold before the issue was acknowledged and said the food items were made by an outside company and were not prepared inside the venue.

Huge queues formed at the food counters for returning the food items, while commentator Brendan Julien said, “There’s been a recall of the chicken sandwich around the ground.” Even Australian spinner Nathan Lyon found the funny side of it, as he was heard asking the Kiwi batsmen on stump mic, “What are you having for lunch? I hope not the chicken.”
