After comprehensively emerging triumphant in the three-match ODI series 2-1, South Africa are scheduled to play a one-off T20I against Australia, which will be played at Carrara Oval in Queensland on November 17. Following their thumping victory at Perth Stadium, the Proteas slumped at Adelaide Oval but held their nerves to get over the line in the third encounter at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
In the meantime, it has been learned that veteran fast bowler Dale Steyn has been released from the T20I squad and would return to his country. The same is for the reason that he would be taking part in the inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League, which will get underway on Friday, November 16 with the encounter between Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans at Newlands in Cape Town.
However, he won’t be available to take part in the opening encounter for the Blitz and is most likely to feature in Sunday’s contest against Durban Heat, captained by Albie Morkel, as per reports in Sport 24. The Phalaborwa-born fast bowler would be playing under the leadership of right-handed batsman Farhaan Behardien, who has represented the national team in the past.
Steyn Gun in stupendous form
Steyn made his comeback during the Proteas Test series against Sri Lanka. Thereafter, he played a couple of ODIs against Zimbabwe and ended with five wickets apart from scoring a half-century in Bloemfontein. The 35-year-old was also fantastic in the 50-overs format against the Aussies and was one of the main reasons why the visitors were able to keep their rivals on the mat.
He finished with seven wickets from three matches and showed the reasons why he is regarded as one of the best in the business despite age not being on his side. The World Cup in England and Wales is set to start on May 30 and Steyn is expected to play a crucial role in their campaign. He was a part of the South African team that bowed out of 2015’s event after their loss against New Zealand.
