David Warner has been brilliant in the white-ball cricket in 2019 starting from a splendid effort in the IPL followed by a record performance in the World Cup. Though he had a tough Ashes series, the left-hander was quick to bounce back with exceptional performances. Warner struck unbeaten fifties in all the three games of the T20I series against Sri Lanka which was his first series at home since serving the ban. Warner aggregated a total of 217 runs and was named the player of the series.
All the major stats and records created by David Warner during the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka:
1 – David Warner became the first opening batsman to remain unbeaten in all matches of a T20I series. (Min: 3 matches) Matthew Hayden (WT20 2007) is the other opener to be unbeaten on three instances in a T20I series/tournament. Hayden, however, featured in six matches during the 2007 edition of WT20.
1 – David Warner also became the first player to record unbeaten 50+ scores in three straight T20I innings. Overall, Warner is the 4th Australian to hit three consecutive fifty-plus scores after Shane Watson (2011-2012), Aaron Finch (2018) and Glenn Maxwell (2019).
3 – Warner is only the 3rd player with three 50+ scores in a 3-match T20I series. Virat Kohli during the 2016 series in Australia and Colin Munro in the 2017/18 home series against West Indies scored 50+ runs in all three matches.
9 – Warner received player of the match award in all the three matches in this series. He now has nine player of the match awards in the T20I cricket; the joint-most for Australia by any player. Shane Watson also has nine such awards. Overall, only three players received 10 or more player of the match awards in this format.
217 – Warner’s 217 runs in this series are the most by an Australian in a bilateral T20I series surpassing Glenn Maxwell’s 211 runs during the 2-match series in 2016 against Sri Lanka. Overall, only two players have amassed more runs in a bilateral series than Davey.
Colin Munro aggregated 223 runs in the 3-match home series against West Indies in 2017/18 while Hamilton Masakadza scored 222 runs in the 4-match series in Bangladesh prior to the 2016 WT20.
217 – The 217 runs Warner has scored in this series are the most by any player in a T20I tournament/series without getting dismissed. Stephen Myburgh scored 138 runs across two matches in the home series against Nepal in 2015 with helped of unbeaten fifties.
2009 – Warner completed 2000 runs in the T20I cricket when he went past his individual score of 48. He is the first Australian and only the 6th player to complete 2000 runs in Men’s T20I cricket.
9020 – The Australia opener also completed 9000 runs in the Twenty20 format when on 37. He is the first player from Australia to this milestone and only the 5th player overall.
