Australia vs Sri Lanka, 2019: List of records David Warner created with his maiden T20I century

David Warner celebrated his 33rd birthday in style by smashing an unbeaten 100 off 56 balls against Sri Lanka in the first game of the 3-match T20I series. This was Warner’s maiden T20I ton that helped Australia to finish with a huge score of 233/2. Warner is fresh of a disastrous Ashes series where he collected 95 runs across 10 innings. Sri Lanka could only make 99/9 in their 20 overs; a run less than what Warner alone scored.

1 – David Warner became the first player to score a T20I century on birthday. Yuvraj Singh’s unbeaten 60 against Sri Lanka in 2009 Mohali T20I was the previous highest T20I score on a birthday. Imran Ali of Bahrain scored 58 on his 33rd birthday against Saudi Arabia which was indecently his T20I debut as well.
2 – Warner is only the 2nd player to score a hundred in all three formats while opening the innings for Australia. The first player with this feat was Shane Watson which he completed in 2016.
3 – Warner is only the 3rd player to complete a century in Men’s T20I cricket on the last possible ball of the innings. JP Kotze brought up his hundred on his T20I debut against Botswana on the last ball of Namibia’s innings earlier this year. Martin Guptill completed his century on last ball of New Zealand’s chase during the 2012 East London T20I against South Africa which was reduced to 19 overs.
5 – The left-hander is now only the 5th player to score multiple T20 tons in Australia. Craig Simmons, Usman Khawaja, Luke Wright and Shane Watson are the other four players with two T20I tons in Australia.
8 – Number of centuries in the Twenty20 cricket for David Warner; the joint 2nd most by any player in the T20 format. Chris Gayle scored 22 hundreds while Michael Klinger also scored 8 T20 tons.
71 – Warner needed 71 innings for his maiden T20I century; the 2nd most innings before maiden hundred by any player in men’s T20I cricket. Kevin O’Brien scored Ireland’s first-ever T20I century earlier this innings in his 74th innings. Shoaib Malik stands on the top among the players who batted most times without scoring a T20I century. The Pakistan all-rounder batted in 104 innings thus far.
99/9 – Sri Lanka finished on 99/9 in their 20 overs; one run less than what Warner managed in this game. He is only the 2nd Australian to outscore the opposition in a T20I. Aaron Finch scored 172 against Zimbabwe who scored 129/9 during the 2018 Harare T20I.
