The Australian team is currently low on confidence after having lost a home series against the No. 1 ranked Test side Team India for the first time in their history. Their batting has been a major worry for them and this tour presents the Aussies with an opportunity to cement a solid batting line-up.
The latest addition to the Australian side that takes on the touring Sri Lanka, Kurtis Patterson has credited the NSW batting coach for his maiden call-up. Beau Casson, the batting coach of NSW has forged a strong relationship with the 25-year-old and Patterson has constantly improved under his watch.
“I’ve got to give a lot of credit to Beau Casson, we’ve forged a really strong relationship and he’s absolutely fantastic for me.” Patterson was added to the squad following his twin hundreds playing for the CA XI in a warm-up fixture against the Lankans. To add to it, he has got three centuries in his last five innings and by the looks of it, the left-handed batsman has taken his red ball game to a whole new level.
“I really enjoy the way he goes about his coaching, we get along really well on a personal level, which helps to start with, and I think he really understands batting and cricket. He keeps it really simple which I think is what I’ve been lacking in previous years, going too far the other way. He’s just a good coach who knows the right things to say.” Patterson was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
The Australian selectors seem to have gone all in with their selection as they handed over a maiden call-up to Will Pucovski who is just 20 years old and recalled Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns. The team has been subjected to a series of changes after their dismal performance against the Indians.
The first encounter between the two teams in the two Test-match series will be a day-night affair which gets underway in Brisbane on Thursday.
