Australia Women continued their dominating run against the England Women in the ongoing Women’s Ashes ODI leg. They beat the English side by 75 runs in the rain-affected game. With the win, the team has now ensured a dominating 4-0 lead in the series with one ODI, one day-night Test and three Twenty20 internationals left to play.. In the match, the English side had asked the Australia Women to bat first.
Aussie openers Nicole Bolton and Alyssa Healy put on 98 runs for the opening stand. The partnership was broken when Healy was dismissed on 56 (55) by Sophie Ecclestone. Elysse Perry came in at number three and took on the opposition bowling right from the word go. Both Bolton (66 off 100 balls) and Peryy (67 off 75 balls) paraded along to keep the Australian side in the driver’s seat.
But the final impetus was provided by skipper Racheal Haynes. She hit a blistering unbeaten 89 off just 56 deliveries with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Her whirlwind knock saw the Australian total to propel to 296/6 in the stipulated 50 overs. Jenny Gunn was the pick of the bowlers for England with 4/55 to her name.
The run chase
In the run chase, the English side could never really put on a competition. Megan Schutt sent both the openers packing for single digit scores. Sarah Taylor (26) and Heather Knight (36) showed brief resistance but that was just not enough to keep the chase alive.
The rain interfered and the game resumed in a bit again. Fran Wilson (37) and Katherine Brunt (52) added some quick runs towards the end but it was just not enought. Wickets kept tumbling as Schutt bagged a four fer. England Women bundled out for 209 in 42.2 overs.
Brief Scores:
Australia Women 296/6 in 50 overs (Haynes 89*, Perry 67, Gunn 4/55) England Women 209/10 in 42.2 overs (Brunt 52, Wilson 32, Schutt 4/26, Beams 2/38)
