It was only a month or two back when Cricket Australia and Australian Cricketers Association reached an impasse with no common ground between the two parties. Steve Smith’s Australian team along with 230 cricketers were threatened to remain unemployed for their demand of revenue sharing model as opposed to the fixed-revenue model proposed by the cricketing board.

The tiff jeopardized the chances of Australia’s tour to Bangladesh, India and even The Ashes. After weeks of ugly spats between the Board and its players, Cricket Australia finally gave in to the players’ demands and the two parties reached a common ground.

What followed post the high-profile agreement was a humiliating loss in Test against Bangladesh in the Dhaka Test. After salvaging some pride in the Chittagong Test, Australia now faces a chance of a probable whitewash in the five-match ODI series.

With Steve Smith’s side’s loss at Indore, India clinched the series by taking an unassailable lead of 3-0. It was not that Australia was comprehensively beaten by the home side as they had their opportunity in each of the three ODIs played.

As a result, disappointed fans back home questioned the entire payment dispute gaga which eclipsed Australian Cricket post-Champions Trophy.

“Just what was the big pay dispute for as they have not done what they are now being paid to do, maybe they should go back to the old rules and they travel without their wife’s and partners they might get more runs and wickets. But when it comes to the next pay rise time a base wage the same for everyone then extra for runs and wickets,” wrote a fan in the comments section of Australian newspaper websites such as Daily Telegraph and Australia.

“Maybe, instead of just paying them millions, Cricket Australia should have put them on performance contracts,” wrote another Australian fan.
