The vintage MS Dhoni seemed to be back when India played Australia in the 2nd ODI of the three-match series. He took his time to settle in initially, then shifted gears and finished off in style. A 54-ball 55 from him along with skipper Virat Kohli’s 104 helped India get over the line comfortably by a margin of six wickets to level the series.
However, while Dhoni was batting, he seemed to be in severe discomfort. The 37-year-old kept wickets for fifty overs in the sweltering heat with the temperatures soaring above 40°C which would have been quite a daunting task. Then, when the came out to bat, he had to run extremely hard between the wickets courtesy the huge Australian grounds.
MS Dhoni can’t even stand right now
Dhoni had players like Kohli and Dinesh Karthik at the other end while he was batting. These cricketers are also brisk runners between the wickets just like him. So, every time the ball was pushed into a gap, there was an opportunity of a two or a three.
This intensive running and keeping the wickets seemed to have taken the pulp out of MS Dhoni towards the end of second innings. He was on the field for nearly five hours (batting and fielding) and thus the cramps got better of him. The wicket-keeper batsman seemed to be completely exhausted and thus took an inevitable break in between the innings. He was down on the ground and there were a lot of fluids that were being pumped into his body.
Telegraph Sport, a leading Australian media house, took it to Twitter to share a picture of the veteran down on the ground. ‘MS Dhoni can’t even stand right now,’ the tweet read which agitated the fans. They absolutely lashed out at the media house for these comments on the cricketer with more than 10,000 ODI runs. The media house was brutally trolled after Dhoni finished the game with a six.
