Australian star Ellyse Perry surpasses many big names

Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has had a terrific and amazing World Cup 2017 so far. She has been in prime form and scored 366 runs in 7 games at an average of more than 91. She has been at the very top of her game and it is not the first time the superstar girl has hit such a prolific purple patch.

Perry has scored five half centuries in the tournament so far. She has been an important reason that the Australian team has claimed that semi-final spot in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. The 26-year-old has now become the first player in ODI history, male or female, to achieve the feat of three separate streaks of five or more consecutive fifties.

The Aussie allrounder has surpassed many big names in the likes of former England captain Charlotte Edwards, Virat Kohli and his Kiwi rival Kane Williamson. And with two matches left in the tournament, Perry even has the all-time women’s record held by Indian captain Mithali Raj (seven consecutive fifties) in her sights. For the record, the overall mark is the nine straight fifties scored by Pakistan’s Javed Miandad in 1987.

71 (91) vs New Zealand

The Australian was at her usual best at the crease and played calculative innings. Australia was set a target of 220 runs, which they eventually achieved with 5 wickets in hand. Perry scored 71 runs at a strike rate of more than 70.

66 (97) vs Pakistan

She batted superbly against Pakistan after being dropped early in the innings. It was a slow inning but she hit 5 boundaries in that game and helped her side reach a total of 290 runs while batting first. Australia won the match by 159 runs, after a good bowling performance.

70 (86) vs England

Ellyse played an important knock in the run chase of 259 against arch-rivals England, but couldn’t help her side to cross the line, as Australia lost the game by three runs on the final ball of the match. She scored 4 fours and 2 sixes in her crucial innings.

60 (67) vs India

With semi-final spot up for grab, Australian Women caught the opportunity to take the big step forward in the tournament. While batting first, India scored 225 runs, which was not sufficient for them to win the match. Australia chased down the target with ease and secured their spot in the final four of the tournament. Perry led the finishing touch with her knock of 60 runs off 67 balls.

55 (58) vs South Africa

This was Australia’s final game before the knockout stage. They were up against a strong Proteas team. Australia set up a target of 270 runs while batting first. South Africa were looking good but lost wickets at regular intervals and in the end conceded the game by 59 runs. Ellyse Perry was awarded “The Player of the Match” for her match-winning 55 runs.
