Following the shameful stone hurling at the Australian team bus, another twist has resulted in the emergence of further conflicting statements. While the bus authorities claim that it might have happened because of Air Pressure, Guwahati CP said that it might have been some stone slipping from the tyres.

On the other hand, Cricket Australia has put up a statement saying that the stone that was thrown at the window was the size of a cricket ball. They have clarified that the players were taken aback, but fortunately, no injuries were reported since the seat next to the window was not occupied. Despite the incident, CA also added that they are comfortable with the levels of security provided.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has meanwhile directed the DGP to immediately nab the culprits. Chief Secretary, Govt. of Assam has been directed to start an inquiry into the incident and submit a report. Sports Minister, Naba Doley, along with the Chief Secretary and DGP were directed to meet the Australian players and convey the state government’s concern as reported by Time8.

Two individuals nabbed

Doley informed in a press meet at Hotel Radisson Blu that two individuals have been apprehended in connection to the case. Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter tendering apologies for the whole incident mentioning that Assam and its people are not like this.

The unfortunate incident has raised questions about security as well as hospitality. The incident happened in Lokhora Chariali area about 1km away from the team hotel. It has also forced high-security alert for visiting athletes for the FIFA U17 World Cup who are visiting Guwahati, one of the venues for the ongoing tournament.

The stone hurling at the bus carrying the Australian players, in all likelihood, was a result of frustration arising after the visitors put up a brilliant performance earlier in the night winning the 2nd T20I game by 8 wickets. It was top-order batsman Aaron Finch who tweeted the image showing a broken window in the bus with the line- “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel.”
