Australia's hectic 2022-23 summer to begin against Zimbabwe in August
Australia will test their squad's strength in the limited-overs series against England leading up to the T20 World Cup.
The Australian men’s team has got a jam-packed summer of cricket ahead of them starting in late August. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the postponed games are scheduled to be played later this year. The 2022-23 summer is momentous for the Aussies as they look to defend their T20 World Champions title.
In the lead-up to the T20 World Cup later this year, Australia will kick things off with a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. They will then welcome New Zealand for a three-day-night ODI match series and host a two-match T20I series against the West Indies, followed by an all-important three-match T20I series against England, immediately before the Men’s ICC T20 World Cup.
The hectic schedule of games continues for the Men in Yellow after the T20 World Cup as they will host England for a three-match ODI series before following it up with a Test series against West Indies and South Africa. The Women’s team will invite Pakistan for three-match ODI and T20I series in January 2023.
It promises to be an incredible summer: CA CEO Nick Hockley
Although the dates for the ODI series against South Africa are yet to be confirmed, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said that they have got an “incredible summer” as they will be hosting six countries in Australia for the first time.
“We are hosting a record six touring nations to Australia this season, in addition to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. It promises to be an incredible summer. We are delighted that Test cricket is coming back to Perth Stadium for the first Test of the summer versus the West Indies, after almost three years without international cricket, and we look forward to hosting South Africa over Boxing Day and New Year for the first time since 2008,” Hockley was quoted by Cricbuzz.
“After two years of being impacted by the pandemic, the 2022-23 home summer will be an especially busy one for the Australian men’s team as we honor our commitments to the ICC’s Future Tours Program. This provides important opportunities to progress towards ICC World Test Championship Final qualification as well as the build-up for the ICC Men’s One-Day World Cup in India in 2023,” the CA CEO added.
