Young Indian fast bowler Avesh Khan is determined to grab the eyeballs of the national selectors. He has already completed half his journey by getting selected in the Board President XI that will take the visiting Australians for a practice match ahead of their encounter against the Indians. the 20-year-old is defined by his appetite for wickets and the great amount of bounce that he troubles the batsmen with.
Khan has his eyes set on the national team and has been following the path religiously. The bowler first went to Australia as a part of the MoU between the MRF Pace Foundation and Cricket Australia and now he finds himself selected in the Board President’s XI. Speaking about the same, Khan mentioned that he has the ability to swing the ball both ways and is eager to capitalize on the opportunity.
What Avesh said:
“I am looking forward to the opportunity. I am basically a swing bowler, can move it both ways,” said this former India under-19 cricketer to The Hindu on Sunday.
Avesh stated that bowling to the Australian cricketers will be a robust challenge as they are all heavyweights of the game. However, he mentioned that he has learned a lot from the legendary Glenn McGrath about building a strong mentality during his time at the MRF pace foundation.
“Bowling at the Aussies will be a challenge mentally. They are big players. But the great Glenn McGrath taught me a lot about the mental aspect of bowling at the MRF Pace Foundation.” he added.
Head coach of the MRF, M. Senthilnathan had spent a significant amount of time polishing the bowler and mentioned that the lad has great potential.
“Avesh is a strong boy. He has a semi side-on action. He can hit the pitch hard, achieve lift. He can also bowl a fuller length and swing the ball. And he is sharpish.” he said.
“When he went to Australia as part of the exchange programme, Avesh impressed in a lot of target-based match scenarios with the boys from the Australian cricket academy.” he added. “Avesh picks up things quickly, his execution levels are pretty good too.” he concluded.
