Azhar Ali in awe of Virat Kohli's run-scoring spree in ODIs
Kohli slammed an unbeaten 157 as India posted 321 runs on the board.
The modern-day legend Virat Kohli added two more feathers to his cap while playing the 2nd ODI against the Windies. In this game, the Indian skipper opted to bat first after winning the toss. India lost both its openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan quite early in the innings. The 29-year-old walked out to bat in the fourth over of the innings.
He bailed the team out of trouble with some great stroke play. On a surface that wasn’t easy to bat on, he registered his 37th ODI century and is now only 14 shy of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Ahead of this game, Virat needed another 81 runs to cross the 10,000 ODI runs.
Virat Kohli breaks Sachin’s record
In the process of registering yet another terrific hundred, Kohli surpassed the 10,000 run mark when he took a single off the bowling of Ashley Nurse. He is the fastest to this record by quite some distance. He achieved this figure in just 205 innings, 54 innings less than Sachin Tendulkar who got there in 259 innings. Also, he is the second youngest after Sachin to reach the landmark.
The legendary batsman took only 11 innings to get to 10k runs from 9k. Furthermore, he broke the records of Rahul Dravid and Sanath Jayasuriya who took the least days from debut and the least balls faced to get there. The entire cricketing fraternity went in awe about this special knock from Kohli. Among the ones who showed praises on him was Pakistani batsman Azhar Ali.
Replying to a tweet from ICC, he congratulated Kohli on getting there in just 205 innings. Apart from him, Mohammad Hafeez is the only other Pakistani player who wished him thus far.
“Congratulations @imVkohli what an achievement in only 205 innings,” he tweeted.
