Pakistan national cricket team’s batting coach Younis Khan has praised the team’s skipper Babar Azam and gave an insight on how he thinks. While praising Babar, he also noted that the batsman has improved his shot selection from strength to strength. Recently, the Pakistan skipper broke the streak of Indian captain Virat Kohli and dethroned him from the No. 1 position on the ICC ODI batsmen’s rankings.

Babar was also in superb form with the blade during the recently concluded South Africa tour. During the ODI series, he scored 103, 31, and 94 runs in the three innings to go past Kohli in the rankings. He has an average close to 56 in ODIs and has made 3,808 runs from 80 matches, which includes 13 centuries and 17 fifties.

His contribution in the ODI series helped Pakistan beat South Africa by 2-1. In the subsequent T20I series, the 26-year-old continued his superb form. Babar Azam scored a magnificent 122 runs from 59 balls in the third T20I. He also scored 14, 50, and 24 runs in the other three innings of the T20I series.

Younis Khan feels Babar’s captaincy is improving

Coming back to Younis Khan, in a recent interaction, he spoke about the most important quality of the Pakistan captain. He noted that the young captain’s tactics are working well for Pakistan and he is improving in the role. Khan also pointed out that the Pakistan skipper has the desire and hunger of scoring runs regularly.

“The most important quality that Babar has is the desire and hunger to score runs. We are also seeing his captaincy improve with each outing [along with] his shot selection,” Younis was quoted as saying by PakPassion.

Babar Azam’s contribution in the T20I series helped his side beat a depleted South African team 3-1. Pakistan was dominant throughout the series, except the one game in Johannesburg, which they lost by quite a margin. Azam will now lead the Pakistan team for a tour to Zimbabwe, where his team is scheduled to play three T20Is and two Tests.
