'Babar Azam has the potential to reach Virat Kohli's heights in ODIs and Tests': Inzamam-ul-Haq
Babar is a self-confessed fan of Kohli and has acknowledged the Indian captain's accomplishments on several occasions.
The comparisons between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam fail to douse. The two batsmen are regarded as unrivalled batsmen of the modern game. Similarities can be drawn between both the batsmen on the basis of their technique and prolific run-scoring rate across all formats of the game. Considering the stats– Kohli has more runs, more centuries and greater experience to his name. However, not many people would argue that Babar has paved his way to the elite league of modern-era batsmen.
Babar is a self-confessed fan of Kohli and has acknowledged the Indian captain’s accomplishments on several occasions. After scoring his second Test hundred in the last three-game on Sunday at against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, Babar had revealed that he aspires to emulate Kohli in ODI and Test format in order to win more matches for his side. The 25-year-old batsman has played 74 ODIs for Pakistan and has scored 3359 runs at an impressive average of 54.2.
Amid all the comparisons between both the right-handers, former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has stated his opinion between the two. “Both the players are in the league of elite batsmen of the current era. In 240 ODIs, Kohli has amassed over 11000 runs and has 43 tons under his belt,” said Inzamam on his official Youtube channel.
Virat Kohli can also surpass Sachin Tendulkar: Inzamam-ul-Haq
“The Indian captain’s record speaks for himself and he can also surpass Sachin Tendulkar‘s record in future. Virat’s aggression and passion for the game have been the same since his first match for India,” he added.
“Babar Azam also has a hunger to score runs. Both players have similar traits. Both the players play with a motive to deliver match-winning performances for their team. Kohli has already proved his forte by steering his side to the win on many occasions. Babar has also stepped up and started delivering match-winning performances for Pakistan since a couple of years,” said the former Pakistan skipper.
Virat Kohli has an astounding record in ODIs and Tests. The 31-year-old has amassed 11524 runs in 240 ODIs at an average of 60. He also has 43 tons and 54 half-centuries under his belt. In 84 Tests, the right-hander has amassed 7202 runs including 27 tons and 22 half-centuries. Kohli will certainly go down as one of the greatest batsmen in the history books.
“Both the players possess the quality to learn from their mistakes and improve their game. Babar is ranked No.1 in T20Is and has the potential to reach Kohli’s heights in ODI and Tests too. Babar has the potential to become an ever-great player for Pakistan,” said Inzamam while equating Babar and Kohli.
“Considering the current form and fitness levels, Virat will script many records in the upcoming 10 years. Both players are stalwarts for their respective countries,” he added.
