The 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League is still a month away but the buzz is already being created on social media. This will be the first time that the entire edition of the franchise-based competition will be staged in Pakistan. And, while the likes of Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators have all tasted titular glory, one team that hasn’t been able to achieve that moment is the Babar Azam-led Karachi Kings.

But with the addition of two-time Pakistan Super League winner and former Aussie batsman Dean Jones as Head Coach is being seen as a pretty significant move. And, Jones who is looking forward to it as a new challenge, is already relishing at the prospect of working alongside the No.1 ranked T20I batsman in the world Babar Azam, who he termed as a ‘potential batting genius’.

“Babar Azam is respected around the world. I am really looking forward to working with him at Karachi Kings and to see how he goes about his game and how he prepares himself mentally and physically for matches. To me, Babar is a potential batting genius” Dean Jones was quoted as saying by PakPassion.net.

‘Pakistan is a great country’: Dean Jones

This will be the first time that the entire Pakistan Super League will be played in Pakistan and Dean Jones hailed it as a great country. Citing the spectator index as one of the reasons to visit Pakistan, Jones also highlighted the key role that PSL has played in Pakistan claiming the numero-uno spot in the ICC T20I rankings.

“Pakistan is a great country & is now one of the top countries to visit according to the Spectator Index. I know how much cricket means to Pakistanis & how important PSL is for PCB as they probably got to number 1 in T20Is because of that & long may it continue” Jones added.

Jones also added that he feels Australia will tour Pakistan one day but also admitted that it is a slow process and it will take time as the teams’ are hesitant to travel to Pakistan following the 2009 terror attacks on the Sri Lankan team.

“I feel that a tour of Pakistan by Australia will happen one day, but it’s a slow process and the undeniable and unfortunate fact is that the Sri Lankan team was attacked in Pakistan and as a result, a lot of teams have been hesitant to travel to Pakistan. But then we have to consider the fact that in today’s world, attacks are happening everywhere” he added.
