'Babar Azam or Virat Kohli?' - Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali makes his choice
Azhar Ali opens up on the much-debated topic.
Babar Azam, the top-order batsman from Pakistan has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the last couple of years. Surprisingly, he is too often compared with Virat Kohli, who made his debut back in 2008 and established himself as one of the best batsmen in modern-day cricket. The cricketing fraternity is always engaged in a never-ending debate on which player is the best between the aforementioned batsmen. And, Azhar Ali, the Pakistani Test captain has come out with his opinion over the same.
Virat Kohli is currently ranked number one in the latest ODI rankings for batsmen released by ICC. Meanwhile, Babar Azam is number one in T20Is. Interestingly, there are many similarities between the game of Babar and Kohli, who mostly rely on playing conventional strokes instead of trying any unorthodox stroke. This is the main reason behind their success in international cricket. And, also they are very technically sound when it comes to batting.
Azhar Ali has his say
In a live Instagram session, Azhar Ali said that Babar Azam is playing really well across all the formats. His career is on the rise and he is expected to do better in the future. Meanwhile, he also added that the 25-year-old doesn’t have many opportunities as compared to the Indian batsman. However, he accepted that Kohli is better than Babar in terms of achievements.
He also added that the top-order batsman from Pakistan is no less than Kohli in terms of talent. As per him, if anyone talks from the perspective of records and match-winning knocks, then the Indian skipper has got more opportunities. Moreover, his status is also quite big in international cricket.
“At the moment, Babar is on the rise. Maybe he doesn’t have any many opportunities as Virat Kohli but at the moment you have to say that Kohli is still better in terms of his achievements. Talking about skills, Babar is not less than any cricketer at the moment. But if we talk from the perspective of records, or match-winning knocks or achievements, Kohli has got more opportunities and Kohli’s status also as a player is big.” the 35-year-old said as during a live Instagram session.
