Pakistan top order batsman, Babar Azam, now a vital player in the team’s batting line-up in only a short span, has opened about his success mantra and how he managed to perform well in a short period. Pakistan faced batting woes for the longest of time, and since the retirement of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, there are some talented batsmen who have looked promising and Azam is one of them.
He has done well for the team and has already registered seven ODI tons in his 36 match career. It is often said that he is to Pakistan what Virat Kohli is to India, which Babar himself denies. His ability to accumulate runs and score big, has been applauded by mates and critics alike. The youngster spilled out some of the lessons he got during his Under 19 days, which have later helped him in the international cricket.
Stay at the wicket
“Ijaz bhai used to tell me: you stay at the wicket, everything else will happen. I rose to the international level keeping these words in mind; I retained that mindset,” stated Azam, quoted ESPNcricinfo.
Babar, alongside current skipper Sarfraz Ahmed is one of the very few Pakistani players who have emerge from the domestic circuit, rising through the ranks representing the U19 and A side. The batsman advice the youngsters to stay fit and give their all to the game, before asking anything in return.
Pakistan have already missed out on one of their most talented batsman, Umar Akmal, because of his fitness issues and it is only natural for Babar Azam to emphasize on making it a habit in rigorous times for cricketers in the modern era.
“I would say never compromise on your cricket,” said Babar. “The more time you give to the ground, the more it will give back to you. Keep an eye on your fitness and give your 100% in matches. Stay focused.”
