Babar Azam ruled out of England tour with fractured arm

Team Pakistan have received a major blow on their current tour of England. One of their top players, Babar Azam, has been ruled out of the ongoing Test match and the remainder of the tour. It is a fractured forearm that sees Azam being ruled out of the remaining cricketing action on the tour. The youngster sustained an injury on the day two play of the ongoing Test match at Lord’s.

He was batting very well for his side as Pakistan had assumed ascendancy in the game. Babar Azam was playing on 68 when a Ben Stokes delivery hit him on his forearm. He was seen in some serious pain. The physiotherapists were out on the field immediately to check his condition.

After a brief while of considerations and talking, Azam decided to walk off the field retired hurt. After the end of the day’s play, Babar Azam went for an x-ray. The Pakistan team physiotherapist, Cliff Deacon, confirmed the same. He remarked that the x-ray has confirmed a fractured in Azam’s forearm. He will be out of action for about four to six weeks now.

“We decided we were going to do a precautionary x-ray at the end of the day’s play. Unfortunately, the x-ray confirmed there was a fracture. The fracture’s in the forearm, it’s one of the two bones in the forearm in the distal third of the arm, just above the wrist. That’s why he couldn’t hold his bat properly,” Cliff Deacon quoted.

Chance for others to step up

The Pakistan team will hope they do not miss the services of Babar Azam much in the match especially after most of their batsmen scoring runs in the first innings. In the absence of Azam, there is a chance for the other players to step up in the match that follows next. In the second and the final Test of the tour, the team management will have a pool of Usman Salahuddin, Fakhar Zaman, and Sami Aslam to choose from. Sami Aslam is most likely to fill the void.
