Babar Azam’s superb knock helps Pakistan trounce India

Babar Azam led from the front to enable Pakistan beat India for the first time in World Cup cricket on 24th October 2021. The Indian side batted first and posted a total of 151/7 on the board, with Virat Kohli (57) and Rishabh Pant (39) contributing useful runs with the willow in hand.

In reply, it was the ‘Babar Azam-Mohammad Rizwan’ show that stunned the Indian side. Both Azam and Rizwan put on a stunning 152-run partnership for the opening wicket as Virat Kohli and his men were completely outplayed.

Babar Azam scored a flawless 68* off 52 deliveries. The Pakistan skipper struck 6 fours and 2 sixes in his stay out in the middle. Mohammad Rizwan scored an attacking 55-ball 79* as well, as Pakistan cantered past the target with 10 wickets and 2.1 overs to spare. Pakistan will next lock horns with the New Zealand side on 26th October 2021 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Babar Azam is arguably one of the greatest batsmen to have played for Pakistan in T20I cricket. The right-handed batting stalwart is currently the third-highest run-scorer for the ‘Men in Green’ in the T20I format and has amassed 2272 runs in 57 T20I innings at a superb average of 48.34. The 27-year-old has also represented Pakistan in 35 Tests and 83 ODI matches as well.
