Babar Azam to rejoin Somerset to play in ongoing T20 Blast
The T20 Blast is taking place from August 27, where champions Essex Eagles have been defending their title.
Pakistan is currently locking horns with England in the T20I series setting the action at Old Trafford, Manchester. Amid this, there is news of Pakistan star batsman Babar Azam to feature in ongoing T20 Blast competition for Somerset.
The club has confirmed the news on Saturday, and Babar will be available for the group stage matches at the end of the league and then the knock-out stages if the club qualifies further.
The 25-year-old is currently leading Men in Green in 3-match T20I series, and the first one already got abandoned after rain played the spoilsport. The Pakistan batsman was a pure gem for Somerset the last season, he scored 578 runs and is set again to ply his trade successfully from September 2 to October 4.
“I really enjoyed playing for Somerset last year, and I can’t wait to get back to the club. For obvious reasons, this year has been very different from what we were all expecting, and I fully appreciate the challenges the game has faced globally as well as here in England.
We have all had to adapt, and I’m just really pleased that we could find a way to make this happen. I hope that I can help to contribute to success on the field for Somerset again,” said Babar as quoted by TimesNow.
We have been in close touch with PCB and ECB: Andy Hurry
Somerset director of Cricket Andy Hurry stated that we have been in close touch with PCB and ECB to check the availability of players for the ongoing league. We knew the schedules and adjusted accordingly so that they can be part of the league. Babar is a great player to watch out for, he added.
“We originally agreed to terms and announced Babar’s signing prior to the impact of COVID-19. However, since then there have obviously been revisions to the domestic and Vitality Blast schedules.
Since the confirmation of the 2020 fixtures, we have been working collaboratively with the ECB, PCB, Babar, and his management team to ensure that we could all make the necessary adjustments that would enable him to join us to fulfil the pre-existing agreement.”
