Ball lands in a bucket full of paint after Jonny Bairstow hits a six in SL vs ENG Galle Test
Umpires had to change the ball after the hilarious incident.
England were on a rampage against Sri Lanka in the just-concluded two-match Test series at Galle International Stadium as they crushed the hosts in the last Test by a massive 6 wickets to win it by 2-0. The series win also helped England inch closer to booking a place in the final of the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship.
The second Test between England and Sri Lanka was a thrilling affair as the spectators witnessed continuous sledging and banter from both sides. The match had commenced with the hosts winning the toss and posting a total of 381 runs on the board as Angelo Mathews hammered 110 runs with the willow.
In reply, England were bundled out for a total of 344 thanks to Joe Root who smashed 186 runs while spinner Lasith Embuldeniya took seven scalps for Sri Lanka. The team from Island nation put up an underwhelming show with the bat in the third innings as they collapsed for a mere total of 126 runs. Dom Bess and Jack Leach went all guns blazing against the opponents’ feeble batting line-up as they picked four wickets each.
Dominic Sibley regains his form
Chasing 164 runs was no big deal for the visiting nation. Though they received their first hiccup quite early in the form of Zak Crawley, who went back to the pavilion after scoring 13 runs, the other opening batsman Dominic Sibley regained his form and scored a stunning half-century (56 off 144 deliveries). The wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow also looked in good touch as he came with an intention of finishing the match early.
Meanwhile, Bairstow was involved in a funny incident as during the 10th over, he hit a stunning six on the delivery by Ramesh Mendis. He got a thick top-edge on the sweep and it carried away with the breeze deep over the fine leg fence.
However, the ball straight away landed in a bucket full of paint which made it impossible to use it again for the match. Thus, the umpires had to ask for a change of ball and Sri Lankan bowlers got an almost new ball. Though Bairstow could add only 29 runs to the scoreboard, England easily chased the target within 43.3 overs.
