It is not an easy job to be the coach of the Bangladesh cricket team, as the team prepares to take on the mighty Australia in a series of 2-Test matches, starting tomorrow (August 27). Bangladesh’s head coach Chandika Hathurusingha is in the news waves after he tweeted about the pressure mounting on him at the moment. The hosts are ready to take on the Aussies and are desperate to make a mark having made immense progress in the past 2 years.

Hathurusingha tweeted “Rock n hard place!! Give in to emotion of a nation or go with b combo…! #sleeplessnights” – at around 4 am on Saturday. On reading the tweet, one can understand the pressure he must be under at the moment. The coach and management were recently criticized after naming the squad for the 1st Test match. Batsman Mominul Haque was earlier excluded from the squad and the fans expressed their displeasure. He was later recalled as the replacement for  Mosaddek Hossain, who was suffering an eye infection and was ruled out.

Captain quizzed over coach’s tweet

Bangladesh’s Test captain Mushfique Rahim was earlier quizzed about the coach’s tweet. The wicketkeeper-batsman told the reporters that he was unaware of the tweet, given that he is not a regular on social media platforms. “It is tough to select the XI when you have a squad of 14 best cricketers. It is not a bad thing for the coach I will say,” said Mushfiq. “The job becomes tough if you have an injury in the squad or need to keep a good player out of the playing XI due to combination. It is good for us that we have enough resources in the team. We will have sleepless nights if we play well and win the game,” he added.

Australia have not won a Test series in the sub-continent since 2011, while Bangladesh levelled the series against England last year; making this 2-Test series a possible contest.
