The pay dispute between Cricket Australia (CA) and Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) was finally resolved on Thursday and along with the Aussie players and the board, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is pleased with the news. They welcomed the decision as well as the Australian team for the scheduled Test series in Bangladesh later this month.

The two-match Test series will get underway at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on August 27 while the last game will be played at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong from September 4. There was a doubt over the execution of the series since the players had denied participating in any match till the dispute is resolved and a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed.

“We are very delighted to welcome them. It is a big series for us because we don’t get the chance to play lot of Test matches and more so in our own backyard. So playing these two Test matches is definitely huge for our cricket,” Jalal Younus the BCB media committee chairman told reporters in Mirpur.

First tour since 2006

The occasion is special also because this will be Australia’s first tour since 2006 after they denied touring the Asian country for two Tests in 2015 and then pulled out the U19 team from the junior World Cup 2016 due to security concerns.

“They did not arrive here earlier on two occasions but now as they are coming, it is definitely big thing for us,” Jalal added. “Though they did not say anything officially, they did not for once give us any negative impression. So we always remained confident about hosting the series.”

Earlier today CA and ACA agreed on a new pay deal which has a provision for up to 30% share in revenue for both the male and female cricketers; in the next 5 years, the amount is expected to account for something as big as $500 million.

Once truce was called between the disputing parties it was also clarified that the team will go through with the proposed tours this summer which includes 2 Tests in Bangladesh, limited-overs tour of India and the Ashes.
