Bangladesh cricketer Suhrawadi Shuvo hospitalized with head injury

Bangladesh’s international cricketer Suhrawadi Shuvo was hit on the head while he was trying to duck under a rising delivery from his countrymen Taskin Ahmed. The incident happened during the Dhaka Premier League match between Victoria Sporting Club and Abahani Limited at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

He was kept under observation for 24 hours, though doctors said he is now “out of danger” and his condition is “stable”.

“Our primary investigation shows no damage in his brain or no internal hemorrhage,” Bangladesh Cricket Board physician Monirul Amin told AFP. “Still he will be under observation for a full day as a precaution,” he added.

Shuvo was batting on 21 for his side, Victoria in the DPL, when Taskin, who is a member of the national squad, banged the delivery on the 25th over. The 27-year old suddenly fell to the ground and was stretchered off the field. He was immediately rushed to Dhaka’s Apollo Hospital, where he is being treated at the clinic’s Intensive Care Unit. Doctors said that Shuvo was struck on the second cervical vertebrae.

Suhrawadi Shuvo, the left-arm spinner has featured in 17 ODIs for Bangladesh where he had bagged 14 wickets. Shuvo was also a part of the World Cup 2011 squad. He has the best bowling figures of 3 for 14 against New Zealand, which was a match winning performance. He had also played one T20 international and one Test match (where he picked up 4 wickets) for Bangladesh.
