Bangladesh desperately need better pitches if they want to progress: Shahid Afridi
Pakistan whitewashed Bangladesh 3-0 in the T20I series.
Pakistan and Bangladesh were up in the three-match T20I series on Bangladesh soil. After winning the final clash by five wickets, the men in green whitewashed Mahmudullah’s men on their soil. It is known for all that Bangladesh has been quite impressive on their home soil and recently even defeated Australia and New Zealand in the T20I series on the same conditions.
However, their performances start dipping as soon as they start playing in the mega-events and foreign pitches. Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi opened on the same matter and said that Bangladesh really need to do some soul searching. The former cricketer added if they wish to perform better in World Cups, they really need to better up their pitch conditions.
“Bangladesh really need to do some soul searching, do they want to win on such pitches and give ordinary performances abroad and in World Cups? They have great talent and passion for the game but desperately need better pitches if they want to progress,” tweeted Shahid Afridi.

Afridi earlier also congratulated the Pakistan team for winning the series clinically. He added it is important for the team to maintain winning ways. Before the same series, Pakistan plied their trade in the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE. In the tournament, they displayed some brilliant form of cricket while cruising through the semi-final while being unbeaten in the league games. However, they later lost to Australia in the semi-final.
“The game was quite close, but our boys held their nerve. Credit to Bangladesh, especially the way Mahumudullah bowled the last over and controlled the situation. The conditions were strange compared to UAE, it wasn’t easy, but the bowlers executed their plans nicely. They are playing the game seriously, ticking all the boxes, enjoying each other’s company, and showing plenty of faith in themselves. Having that kind of depth is a great thing for Pakistan, the guys on the bench are working hard and are pushing each other for spots, you can’t ask for anything more,” stated Pakistan coach Saqlain Mushtaq after their series win over Bangladesh.
