Bangladesh emerges as most-searched team on Google amid Women’s T20 World Cup 2020

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 got underway on February 21 amidst all the glitz and a glittering opening ceremony. Indian eves defeated hosts and defending champions Australia to kickstart their campaign in the tournament on a positive note. This event is historic given that it is the first time the Women’s T20 World cup is being organized as a standalone event.
Previous editions were played alongside the Men’s T20 World Cups, the sudden boom in popularity of women’s cricket post the ICC World Cup 2017, led to the governing body to give them their own event separate from the influence of men’s tournament. This is done to promote women’s cricket as well, which is being broadcasted all over the globe and has broken records in online search as well.
Bangladesh sees a massive spike in interest
Online mogul and search giant Google revealed that Bangladesh topped the search results for Women’s World Cup 2020. Globally, Bangladeshis are showing the most interest in the women’s T20 World Cup. Search results for the ICC event in Bangladesh spiked by +322% in the past week. Bangladesh will play their first match in the tournament against India on February 24 against India at Perth.
The search interest for the Australian Women’s cricket team spiked +721% in the past week in Australia. The top five teams that are being searched the most globally are New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Australia and West Indies in the ICC Women’s World Cup. Some of the major terms that are being searched with respect to the tournament are Women’s T20 world cup broadcast, Women’s T20 cricket fixtures, Women’s T20 world cup $2 coin, WACA ground, and T20 world cup women tickets.

A total of ten teams are participating in the tournament and are divided into two groups. The final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be played on March 8 at the biggest stadium in the world today, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), as the ICC hopes to break the world record for most attendance for a women’s sporting event.
