Bangladesh and Windies are currently playing the third ODI at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, a venue which is hosting its maiden ODI after making its Test debut in November in the Tigers’ match against Zimbabwe. In the first innings, runs were hard to come by as the Windies, captained by Rovman Powell, strained to get the scoreboard moving, much to their agony.
Bangladesh’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss didn’t backfire. Shai Hope was the only man, who looked at ease in the middle. In the meantime, the home team gifted away five penalty runs to their opponents that wouldn’t have pleased them much. Windies would’ve welcomed them with both the hands. The incident occurred in the second ball of the 29th over.
Rahim goofs up
Fast bowler Mohammad Saifuddin bowled a slower off-cutter that came back sharply into Roston Chase, who was left a tad surprised. The batsman was cut into two halves and he was comprehensively beaten. The ball was also tantalisingly close to hitting the stumps. Furthermore, the vicious delivery got the better of Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicketkeeper-batsman.
Rahim dived on to his left in order to collect the ball with his left hand. Unfortunately, he couldn’t latch on. To add to his despair, the ball deflected off his webbings and cannoned towards the helmet that was placed behind him. Musfiqur looked back helplessly and then put his head down in disappointment. At that point in time, Windies were reeling at 108/5 in the 29th over.
Besides the fielding goof-up, Chase would’ve been grateful as the ball could’ve hit the stumps. Even in the second match, he could’ve been run-out, but luck smiled on him. Nevertheless, he strained to find his feet and could only score eight runs from 20 deliveries, which was the case in the erstwhile match at Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka as well.
