Bangladesh to go ahead with an unchanged squad in Chittagong Test

After the historic win today at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium against Australia in the first Test, the selectors have gone ahead with the same squad for the second Test match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong starting September 4.

Bangladesh created history by defeating Australia for the first time in their brief history in the Test matches. It was the Bangladeshi talisman Shakib al Hasan who stood up to his reputation and made the Kangaroos bow down in a dustbowl.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first and scored an above par score of 260, thanks to contributions from Tamim Iqbal and Shakib al Hasan under pressure.

Australians conceded a lead of 43 to the hosts as they were dismissed for 217 in reply. However, the Tigers kept their nerves as the pitch started to deteriorate further and managed to post a challenging target of 265 in front of Australia.

After a brilliant hundred from David Warner, the chances of Bangladesh winning the match remained bleak but the hosts believed and dismissed the Aussies within the required total as the Tigers won the match by 20 runs. Shakib al Hasan was adjudged as the man of the match for his all round efforts.

Australians have their task cut out to deal with the spinning conditions in the subcontinent. The Baggy Greens recently lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to India as they struggle to negotiate Indian spinners in similar conditions.

Steve Smith and co would have to find a way to deal with the spin of Shakib al Hasan, who picked up 10 wickets in the match, and the others such as Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam in the next match.
