Bangladesh to host ACC Emerging team’s Asia Cup from tomorrow
The ACC Emerging team’s Asia Cup starting from 27th March (tomorrow) will be hosted by Bangladesh where Under 23 level teams from different countries of Asia will participate. The tournament is given List A status and is organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
In all 8 teams will compete in the tournament who has been divided into two groups. While Afghanistan, India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka will be in Group A, Group B consists of Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Bangladesh and Nepal.
The four venues which will host the two phases of the tournament is Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS, Chittagong), MA Aziz Stadium (MAAS, Chittagong), Sheikh Kamal Cricket Stadium (SKICS-1, Coxs Bazar) and Sheikh Kamal Stadium (SKICS-2, Coxs Bazar). It will be a 50 over a side tournament and is based on Round Robin and knockout format. Top two teams from each group will compete in the semi-finals.
While the winner of Group A will play the runner-up of Group B, winner of Group B will play runners-up of Group A in the semi-final. Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium will host the final scheduled to be played on 3rd April. Hosts Bangladesh will play their opening match tomorrow at the Sheikh Kamal Cricket Stadium (SKICS-1).
Meanwhile, the senior Bangladesh team is competing in a 3 match ODI series against Sri Lanka and have managed to overhaul the hosts by a huge margin of 90 runs in the opening ODI at the Rangiri International Stadium in Dambulla.
Southpaw Tamim Iqbal became the 1st Bangladesh batsman to amass more than 10,000 runs in international cricket. Later on, the bowlers did the job for the visitors handing them a comprehensive victory to go 1-0 up in the 3 match series.
They also created history and went on to beat Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test to level the 2 match series 1-1. It was also their maiden Test victory against the islanders. They also managed to beat England earlier in the year which also marked their maiden Test victory against the inventors of the game.
