Although the schedule on the cricket calendar seems tight for almost all the teams, Bangladesh are confident of hosting Afghanistan for the limited-overs series. While Afghanistan have a busy schedule, it starts with the three-match ODI series at home against Netherland, in January.
What follows is a tour to Zimbabwe, which consists of three ODIs and five T20Is. Thus, taking the workload management of the players into account, there is a serious question mark over their tour to Bangladesh. Touring Bangladesh means that the Afghans will have to continuously play, without much of a break.
However, according to a report by Cricbuzz, a BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury isn’t too bothered about it and feels that the series will take place as planned. He went on to say that they will be hosting Afghanistan in February, and that isn’t going to change.
We have not heard anything negative from Afghanistan to date: BCB chief executive
“The series remains as it is and we are planning to host Afghanistan in February. We have not heard anything negative from Afghanistan to date and we are hopeful that the series will take place as per the original schedule,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
However, irrespective of the series taking place as per schedule, Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium is most likely not going to host any of the matches of the series, which is scheduled to start from February 23. Most probably, all the matches of the series are going to be played at Chattogram and Sylhet. This is mainly due to the fact that the venue at Mirpur is spin-friendly in nature.
Considering the fact that the opposition team have world-class spinners like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi, playing matches over there might be risky for the hosts. Nevertheless, the three ODIs, which happen to be a part of the ODI Super League, will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on February 23, 25, and 27. The teams will then travel to Sylhet for the T20I games. The games of the shortest format are scheduled to take place on March two and four.
