Bangladesh players harassed at UK's Iftar party
The players had to complete Iftar on the road.
The Bangladeshi team lost their first game at the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 against the hosts. England were able to chase down the target of 306 runs set by Bangladesh pretty comfortably. But the scintillating batting display by opener Tamim Iqbal and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim fetched praises from the fans.
On Saturday, the Bangladeshi players were seen at an Iftar party. The holy month of Ramadan is underway and following the usual tradition, many Iftar parties are being organised. Bangladeshi players were invited to one such Iftar party in the United Kingdom. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials were also invited alongside the cricketers. But the party was not as smooth as the players and the officials expected it to be.
Security guards harassed the Bangladeshi players
Bangladeshi players were reportedly harassed by the authority. The security guards present at the event misbehaved with the cricketers even the officials of higher standings were not spared. Bdcrictime.com reported that BCB’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury was disgusted with the proceedings.
Fuming with rage and anger, he left the party midway. The team also followed him. As the players were fasting, following the traditons and customs, they had to complete their Iftar on the road itself. It is also learnt from different reliable sources that the Bangladesh Cricket Council United Kingdom, the organizer of the event, sold tickets to the general public. They had to pay 10 pounds a person to attend the Iftar party.
But an example of poor management was shown in that aspect as well. They were not able to provide Iftar to all the people. Hence, many people returned empty-handedly despite of paying the listed price of 10 pounds. Bangladesh will now face the mighty Aussies on 5th June. The match will be played at the Kennington Oval in London.
