Bangladesh players set to receive prize money share after 11 months since the 2019 World Cup
The Tigers played their last match against Pakistan on July 5 at the Lord's.
Bangladesh played their last match in the 2019 World Cup in the first week of July. It’s nearly been 11 months and the Tigers’ players are yet to get the share of their prize money. However, after persistence from the Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to clear off all the winning bonuses for the cricketers.
The players were set to get $1,20,000 after winning three matches in the mega event, bearing in mind the winning prize was $40,000 for every victory. Their last match was in the league stage against Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Pakistan at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
The BCB was initially a tad reluctant to give the prize money, but the CWAB managed to somehow convince them. As per the last MPA agreements signed between the participating countries and the International Cricket Council (ICC), the International Federation of Cricketers (FICA) had a role to play. It’s because of the FICA that the players were able to get the prize money.
It was also learned that it should take not more than 14 days for the money to be transferred from the board’s account to the players’ accounts. But after demands from the players, the BCB didn’t budge and objected to pay it.
Money will be deposited in Bangladesh players’ accounts
“They would have got the money to win the match. There was some hesitation initially about whether the players deserved the prize money. However, because of the discussion with the board, that hesitation has been cleared. Now they are also getting the prize money.
“The process had started before Eid and now, as soon as the office is opened, the money will be deposited in the player’s accounts,” Naimur Rahman, the president of the CWAB, was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.
In the World Cup, Bangladesh started with a thumping victory against South Africa at the Kennington Oval in London. Thereafter, they gave West Indies a hiding courtesy a century from Shakib Al Hasan. Mashrafe Mortaza and Co also managed to beat Afghanistan
In that match the Jessore-born Shakib got a five-wicket haul. They also gave New Zealand a run for their money and also made life difficult for the other teams.
