After playing a masterful knock in the Eliminator game, Chris Gayle produced yet another gem of an innings in the final to defeat the star-studded defending champions Dhaka Dynamites. The devastating batsman hit a record 18 sixes during his unbeaten 146-run knock that came off just 69 deliveries. Gayle’s innings helped Rangpur Riders to finish with a huge total of 206/1 which turned out to be a winning score after their bowlers took four wickets in the powerplay.
Here are all the stats and records created during the 5th edition of BPL final:
4 – Mashrafe Mortaza now has won four out of the five BPL titles as a captain. Only MS Dhoni (6) and Shoaib Malik (5) have more titles than Mortaza in Twenty20 cricket. Imran Nazir and Rohit Sharma also won four T20 finals as captains.
5 – Gayle now has five of the 12 centuries recorded in the Bangladesh Premier League with seven other players scoring a hundred each. Gayle’s 146* is also the highest individual score in BPL surpassing his 126* in the Eliminator game against Khulna Titans.
18 – Chris Gayle’s 18 sixes during his innings are the most by any player in a Twenty20 inning. He broke his own record of 17 sixes during the 175* in the 2013 IPL game against Pune Warriors India.
20 – The hundred by Chris Gayle in this game is his 20th in Twenty20 cricket. Brendon McCullum, Luke Wright and Michael Klinger stand next to Gayle with seven centuries each in this format. Since 2011, Gayle has scored at least two centuries in the T20 format in every calendar year.
70.87 – Percentage of team’s runs scored by Gayle in this innings. This is the 5th highest percentage of runs came off a player’s bat in a completed Twenty20 innings and the highest in the BPL. Sabbir Rahman’s 64.89% (122 out of 188/6 in 2016) was the previous highest in the BPL.
107 – Chris Gayle became the first player to hit 100 sixes in the Bangladesh Premier League. He was also the first to hit 100 sixes in the IPL, in CPL and in the T20 Internationals.
146* – Gayle recorded the highest individual innings in a Twenty20 tournament final by surpassing Wriddhiman Saha’s 115* for KXIP against KKR in the 2014 IPL final. Gayle also became only the 4th player to score hundred in a T20 final.
146* – Gayle’s unbeaten 146 is the highest individual score in a Twenty20 knockout or qualifier match going past his own record which he set during his 126* against Khulna Titans in the Eliminator game.
201* – The 201* partnership between Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum is the first ever double hundred stand in the BPL. The previous highest stand in BPL was the 197* between Khulna Royal Bengals’ opening pair Lou Vincent and Shahriar Nafees against Duronto Rajshahi in 2013. This is also the first ever 200-run stand in a Twenty20 tournament final and the first ever in a Twenty20 knockout or qualifier.
