The 5th edition of Bangladesh Premier League was an even mix between big and low scores with the batsmen dominating in the latter half of the tournament. The overseas players were the star attraction with some power hitting while the local guys stared with the ball in the familiar conditions. The Rangpur Riders, who made to the finals for the first time and defeated the defending champions Dhaka Dynamites to emerge as the champions.
All the numbers and stats recorded during the 5th edition of the BPL:
3 – Number of centuries scored in this edition of BPL with all the three coming from Rangpur Riders in the playoffs round. Chris Gayle scored an unbeaten 126 in Eliminator against Khulna Titans and an unbeaten 146 in the Final against Dhaka Dynamites while Jason Charles scored 105* against Comilla Victorians in the 2nd Qualifier.
4 – Number of 5-wicket hauls recorded during this season of BPL. Shakib Al Hasan’s 5/16 against Rangpur Riders are the best figures among the four 5-fers.
12 – Jahirul Islam’s 12 dismissals are the most for a wicketkeeper in the tournament. His six stumpings are also the most by any wicketkeeper. Mohammad Mithun’s seven catches are the most behind the stumps.
13 – Mahmudullah’s 13 catches are the most for a fielder in this BPL edition. Ariful Haque (10) is the only other fielder to take ten catches.
22 – Number of wickets for Shakib Al Hasan in the tournament. He is the only player to bag 20+ wickets in this BPL edition. Abu Jayed is the tournament’s 2nd highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets.
47 – Chris Gayle’s 47 sixes in the tournament are 20 more than the next most Evin Lewis (27). Gayle scored 32 sixes in the qualifiers stage itself.
67 – Chittagong Vikings’ total of 67/10 against Sylhet Sixers is the lowest total in the tournament. This is also the only total less than 90 in this BPL season.
201* – The unbeaten double century stand between Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum for the 2nd wicket in the final is the highest stand for any wicket in the tournament. Jason Charles and McCullum’s 151 in the 2nd qualifier was previous highest partnership while the 146* between Gayle and Mohammad Mithun in the eliminator was the highest stand before that.
213/5 – Khulna Titans’ total of 213/5 is the highest team total in the tournament. They recorded it against Rajshahi Kings in the league stage. A total of seven 200+ totals recorded in this edition including three by Dhaka Dynamites.
485 – Chris Gayle’s 485 runs are the most for any player in the tournament. He scored those runs in 11 innings with two fifties and two centuries. Evin Lewis aggregated 396 runs in the tournament in 12 innings.
