Mustafizur Rahman has been one of the most promising youngsters Bangladesh has had in recent years. However, injuries have marred his career to a significant extent and subsequently he has missed quite a number of encounters. He is expected to play a massive role for the Tigers in the World Cup, scheduled to start on Thursday, May 30 in England and Wales.
Back in 2015, Bangladesh progressed to the quarterfinals and this time around, Mashrafe Mortaza and Co would want to go even further and the left-arm seamer needs to deliver for them. However, in a recent development, it has been learned that the 23-year-old pacer has been ruled out of a couple of weeks after suffering an injury on his left ankle.
Details into Mustafizur’s injury
The Satkhira-born bowler picked up the injury, representing the Shinepukur Cricket Club in their match against Gazi Group Cricketers in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. He picked up a three-wicket haul, but couldn’t save his team from a defeat by 21 runs (D/L Method).
“We went through an X-ray of his (Fiz) injured ankle. Everything is fine as per the report. But we want to go slowly and we suggested him to stay in rest for two weeks,” Debashis Chowdhury, the BCB chairman was quoted as saying to the reporters on Thursday as per reports in United News of Bangladesh.
Before the World Cup, Bangladesh will play a triangular series against Windies and Ireland. The series starts on Sunday, May 5 and the Tigers play their first match against the Caribbean team on Tuesday, May 7 at the Clontarf Cricket Club Ground in Dublin.
As far as the World Cup is concerned, Bangladesh will open their campaign against South Africa on Sunday, June 2 at the Kennington Oval in London. The team would be hoping for their premier pacer to get fit before the mega event gets underway.
