The Bangladeshi team recently went through a horrifying ordeal. The team was in Christchurch for the third Test of their tour to New Zealand and some of the players including the likes of Tamim Iqbal and Mehidy Hasan Miraj was in the vicinity of the Al Noor mosque, one of the two mosques which were attacked by armed gunmen.

The cricketers watched bloodied victims coming out of the mosque after hearing several gunshots and the team would have been in the mosque had they arrived earlier. The cricketers along with staff ran through to the Christchurch ground nearby and took safe haven in the dressing rooms. Fifty people died in attacks on two mosques in Christchurch in what is believed to be one of the worst shooting incidents not only in New Zealand but in a Western country.

Mehidy Hasan starts a new inning in his life

Mehidy Hasan announced his marriage to long-term fiancé Rabeya Akhter Priti on Thursday in Khulna, in southwestern Bangladesh. “I am starting a new journey in my life today. I would like to request the blessings of all my fans and well-wishers for my new beginning. May the Rahmat of Allah always shower upon us,” Mehidy announced on his official Facebook page.

Mehidy is not the only Bangladeshi player who got hitched. Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s brother Mahfuzur was quoted saying that Rahman was also looking for a suitable date for his marriage to his cousin, psychology student Samia Parvin Shimu. “We were looking for a suitable time for his marriage… Now if it can help him overcome the shock, we will be really happy,” Mahfuzur Rahman was quoted as saying by Times of India.

New Zealand return in the aftermath of shootings

As soon as the news of shooting in two mosques spread, the security officials confined the two team into their hotel rooms in Christchurch and New Zealand Cricket announced that the remaining part of the tour was canceled and this allowed the Bangladeshi team to quickly return home.
