Mosharraf Hossain Rubel, the 37-year-old Bangladesh spinner, has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour. The experienced campaigner is in the stranglehold of glioma, a kind of tumour that starts in the glial cells of the spine or the brain. The left-arm spinner is now preparing to travel to Singapore for treatment after getting aware of the illness last week.

The Dhaka-born cricketer mentioned that he had earlier fainted quite a few times after which the problem was revealed through medical checkups. However, Mosharraf, who is still a part of Bangladesh’s domestic cricket, sounded confident about the malady, saying that the tumour hasn’t spewed venom just yet and he is expected to be fine very soon.

“I have applied for the visa and an appointment has been set at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. The doctors said the tumour is at a very primary stage and successful removal should be able to cure me, Inshallah,” Mosharraf was quoted as saying in Dhaka Tribune.

It was during the BPL this year when he fainted

In the meantime, Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, the chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) remarked that the veteran has consulted the BCB medical team and has been given the appropriate advice in order for him to recover at the earliest.

“Severity of the tumour can only be understood once the biopsy is done following the operation. So far, the reports suggest that the tumour is at a primary stage but after all, it is a tumour in the brain so it is very sensitive. It was during the BPL this year when he fainted and was advised a thorough checkup,” he mentioned.

As far as his cricketing career is concerned, Mosharraf has represented his nation in five ODIs after making his debut way back in 2008. His last international appearance was against England back in October 2016. Recently, he was a part of the Comilla Victorians in the sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), but could only play one match against Dhaka Dynamites where he got one wicket.
