Australia made a good comeback in the 2 Test as they posted 225/2 in their first innings at end of the day two of the at Chittagong in reply to the home side’s 305-run 1st innings total. Opener David Warner and Peter Handscomb’s unbeaten 88 and 69 respectively along with captain Steven Smith’s 58 put the Aussies in a comfortable position after Nathan Lyon ended up with a 7-wicket haul.

Here we look at all the stats and records created during the day’s play.

2 – Number of times Nathan Lyon has taken 7 or more wickets in the first innings of a Test match. Muttiah Muralitharan (4) and Clarrie Grimmett (3) are the only spinners to take more 7-wicket hauls in the 1st innings of a Test. Anil Kumble, Saqlain Mushtaq, Harbhajan Singh and Stuart McGill took 7-fers in the 1st innings of a Test on two different occasions.

3 – Number of 7-wicket hauls in Tests in Asia for Nathan Lyon. No other non-Asian bowler has taken more than one 7-wicket haul in Asia.

9 – Number of century stands for Australia for the 3rd wicket in Tests since 2015. Previous eight century stands for the 3rd wicket included Steven Smith before this partnership between Peter Handscomb and David Warner.

23 – Number of overs Steven O’Keefe has bowled without a maiden. These are the most by an Australian in a Test innings without a maiden since 1985. Geoff Lawson also bowled 23 overs without a maiden in 1985 against England at Lord’s.

73 – Number of balls David Warner faced between his 2nd and 3rd boundary in this innings; his longest streak in a Test inning without hitting a boundary. He played 64 balls in the Cape Town Test in 2014 without a boundary.

1904 – The last instance of a spinner taking seven wickets in first innings of Test match while opening the bowling was Len Braund way back in 1904 for England against Australia in Melbourne.

1912 – Last time before Lyon (in this Test) a non-Asian spinner picked up a 7-wicket haul while opening the bowling was Aubrey Faulkner back in 1912 for South Africa against England at The Oval. Rangana Herath (three times) and Ravichandran Ashwin (once) are the only spinners to take a 7-fer in Tests while opening the bowling in 105 years.
