Chasing 286, Bangladesh fell 22 runs short of the target and missed out on registering a historic win against England at Chittagong. Debutant Sabbir Rahman held the innings with an unbeaten fifty and took the hosts closer to the target but the man of the match Ben Stokes picked two wickets in three balls on the final day to take his side home. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day.
1 – For the first time 40 wickets fell in a Test match in Bangladesh. Previous most were 39 wickets on two occasions.
1 – England opening with Batty and Ali in Bangladesh’s 2nd innings was the first instance for England opening the bowling with two off-spinners.
2 – Ben Stokes is now the 2nd pacer of the non-Asian team to aggregate 100 runs and take 6 wickets in a test in Asia. Ian Botham achieved this combination against India at Mumbai in 1980.
6 – Sabbir Rahman is now the 6th batsman to score an unbeaten fifty in the 4th innings in a loss on Test debut. A Freeman in 1924, F Hayes in 1973, Mohammad Wasim in 1996, Kevin Pietersen in 2005 and Tim Southee in 2008 are the other five players.
18 – Number of matches before a non-Asian team won a Test in Asia before this Test. The last win for a non-Asian team was in 2014 by New Zealand vs Pakistan at Sharjah. Since then non-Asian teams lost 14 out of 18 tests they played with another 4 ending in a draw.
22 – Margin of loss for Bangladesh in this game is their narrowest margin with which they lost a Test. Previous was 77 runs vs West Indies in 2012 at Dhaka.

2008 – Last time before this Test England opened with two spinners was vs South Africa in 2008 at Lord’s. Panesar and Pietersen opened the bowling as the light wasn’t sufficient to introduce pacers. Prior to this last time, they opened with two spinners was in 1964.
2012 – England spinners picked up 12 wickets in this Test. Last time they picked up as many wickets were vs India at Mumbai in 2012. They picked 19 wickets in that game.
