Bangladesh v England, 2nd Test, Day 2 – Statistical Highlights
England’s first innings in the 2nd Test at Dhaka went quite opposite to the Bangladeshis. The hosts were bowled out for 220 from 171/1 while England took a 24-run lead after finishing at 244 from 144/8 at a stage. At stumps on the 2nd day, Bangladesh picked up a 128-run lead ending the day at 152 for loss of 3 wickets. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day.
0 – Number of spinners other than Mehedi Hasan have taken two 6-wicket hauls in a series while opening the bowling in last 90 years.
1 – Mehedi Hasan became the first spinner to take two 6-wicket hauls in a series while opening the bowling in first two innings of the test.
2 – Mehedi Hasan is only the 2nd off-spinner to have two five-wicket hauls by end of his first two tests (Mehedi has one more inns to bowl). West Indies’ Sonny Ramadhin picked up two five-wicket hauls in his 2nd test match.
2/33 – Zafar Ansari’s figures of 2/33 in the 2nd innings. Since 1991, no England left-arm spinner has taken more than 2 wickets in an innings on debut.
4 – Mehedi Hasan became the fourth spinner to take five-wicket hauls in each of his first two tests. Nick Cook, Clarrie Grimmett and Narendra Hirwani are the other spinners who took three five-wicket hauls in their first two Tests.
5 – Bangladesh using 3 spinners before bringing in pacers in their 1st innings is the 5th instance in 2016 where a team used 3 spinners in a test innings before introducing pacers. In last 50 years, a total of 14 such instances have been recorded including the 5 this year.
13 – Wickets for Mehedi in his first two Tests so far, already has the most wickets by a Bangladesh bowler after two Tests. Mahmudullah and Sohag Gazi picked up 12 in their first two tests.
