England had a lead of 24 runs after the first innings but the Bangladeshi batsmen managed to score 296 runs in the second innings and a challenging target of 273 runs was set for England. They began the chase very well as the openers put on 100 runs for the first wicket. But just then the spinners raised the bar and dismissed the 10 wickets for just 64 runs to hand the team a win by 108 runs.

The dynamic left-hander had a tremendous time and was the leading run-getter in the series. He scored 231 runs in 4 innings at an average of 57.75 with a century and a half-century. The efforts become even more valuable for the fact that the run-scoring was difficult and the bowlers were dominating. Where most other batsmen failed, he stood out and played a pivotal role in the team’s success.

His highest score of 104 runs came in the second Test where the team’s total was 220. He alone scored the 47% of the team’s overall score. A lot was expected of one of the most talented youngster in the world currently. But the series did not turn out to be highly fruitful for him. He managed 98 runs in 4 innings and had two decent knocks to go with two failures.

The youngster has been rated very highly in the Bangladeshi contingent especially after his performances in the 2015 ODI World Cup. Though the stats were not too appealing yet the right-hander manages to make it to the squad considering the dismal show of the other batsmen in the series.

The 19-year-old off-spinner had a dream start to his international career as he picked up 19 wickets in 2 Tests. He was the leading wicket-taker by far and was deservedly awarded the man of the match award in the second test as well as the man of the series award.

He troubled every single batsman of the opposition and picked up 7 wickets in the first game with a six-for in the very first innings on debut. In the second game, he got 6 wickets in each innings of the match and made it possible for his side to create history at home.

<p>The all-rounder was involved in plenty of controversies in the ODI series as well as the practice matches. But all of that did the world of good to his performances. He shone with bat and the ball and was England’s best performer in the series.</p>
<p>He took 11 wickets with the ball and was the leading wicket-taker for England and the third overall. To go with the ball, he also scored 128 runs with the bat and was the highest run-scorer for England and the third overall here as well. He was the man of the match in the first Test for his all-round performances.</p>

<p>England’s most trusted spinner for quite some time turned up with good works in the series. He was the leading spinner for England and finished with 11 wickets in 4 innings. He picked up 5 wickets in the first game and 6 in the next one.</p>
<p>In the first innings of the first Test, he batted at number 5 and scored a useful knock of 68 runs off 170 balls and tackled the spinners very well which assisted the team to get to a total of 293 runs.</p>
<h4><strong>10. Mehedi Hasan</strong></h4>

<p>The 19-year-old off-spinner had a dream start to his international career as he picked up 19 wickets in 2 Tests. He was the leading wicket-taker by far and was deservedly awarded the man of the match award in the second test as well as the man of the series award.</p>
<p>He troubled every single batsman of the opposition and picked up 7 wickets in the first game with a six-for in the very first innings on debut. In the second game, he got 6 wickets in each innings of the match and made it possible for his side to create history at home.</p>
<h4><strong>11. Chris Woakes</strong></h4>

<p>The pitches in both Tests did not have too much on offer for the fast bowlers and the spinners were doing the higher percentage of bowling. Woakes got to ball just 25 overs in 4 innings and he managed to pick up 3 wickets which came all in the first innings of the second Test.</p>
<p>In the first innings of the first Test, he played a crucial innings of 36 batting down the order and helped his team to get to some sort of total. And once more chipped in with the bat in the first innings of the second Test where he scored 46 runs batting at number 9.</p>

<p>After a tightly fought contest in the ODI series which England won 2-1, the host nation Bangladesh moved to the longest format of the game looking to create history. The pitches were tailor-made to support the spinners of the home side and it was going to be a test of the techniques for the visitors. England was on a long tour to the subcontinent and it was the ideal preparation for the big tour to India.</p>
<p>The first Test saw a gripping competition between the two sides and England was pushed to the limits. But at the end, they managed to snatch the victory from the jaws of Bangladesh. It was a low scoring game and England were bundled out for 293 in the first innings. The bowlers pulled back the game as they dismissed Bangladesh for 248 and the batsmen added 240 runs in the second innings to give Bangladesh a target of 286 runs. The hosts came agonizingly close to the target but missed it by just 22 runs on day 4.</p>
<p>Bangladesh turned the fortunes in the second Test as they created history by defeating England for the first time. England had a lead of 24 runs after the first innings but the Bangladeshi batsmen managed to score 296 runs in the second innings and a challenging target of 273 runs was set for England. They began the chase very well as the openers put on 100 runs for the first wicket. But just then the spinners raised the bar and dismissed the 10 wickets for just 64 runs to hand the team a win by 108 runs.</p>

<p>The dynamic left-hander had a tremendous time and was the leading run-getter in the series. He scored 231 runs in 4 innings at an average of 57.75 with a century and a half-century. The efforts become even more valuable for the fact that the run-scoring was difficult and the bowlers were dominating. Where most other batsmen failed, he stood out and played a pivotal role in the team’s success.</p>
<p>His highest score of 104 runs came in the second Test where the team’s total was 220. He alone scored the 47% of the team’s overall score. In the second innings as well he played a crucial knock of 40 runs. He had another good score of 78 in the first innings of the first Test which helped the side to reach 248.</p>
<h4><strong>2. Imrul Kayes</strong></h4>

<p>The other Bangladeshi opener finished as the second highest run-scorer behind Tamim Iqbal with 143 runs in 4 innings. The best part about Kayes’s batting was the consistency. He came up with scores on 3 out of 4 occasions and all were crucial in the context of the low-scoring matches.</p>
<p>His innings of 78 in the second innings of the second Test proved to be the most important innings of the series for Bangladesh. Bangladesh had conceded the lead of 24 runs after the innings and it was necessary for someone to get a big score. He helped the team to set a target of 273 runs for England which ultimately proved to be more than enough.</p>
<h4><strong>3. Joe Root</strong></h4>

<p>A lot was expected of one of the most talented youngster in the world currently. But the series did not turn out to be highly fruitful for him. He managed 98 runs in 4 innings and had two decent knocks to go with two failures.</p>
<p>In the first Test, he scored 40 runs off 49 balls and looked like getting to a big score but the star of the series Mehedi Hasan cut his innings short. He got the lone fifty in the first innings of the second Test when he scored 56 runs off 122 balls. The 25-year-old has got his work cut out for the long season in the subcontinent to follow.</p>
<h4><strong>4. Mahmudullah</strong></h4>

<p>The youngster has been rated very highly in the Bangladeshi contingent especially after his performances in the 2015 ODI World Cup. Though the stats were not too appealing yet the right-hander manages to make it to the squad considering the dismal show of the other batsmen in the series.</p>
<p>He had scores of 38, 17, 13 and 47 in the 4 innings with the final one being the most imperative. He ended up with a total of 115 runs and was the 3<sup>rd</sup> highest run-getter for Bangladesh.</p>
<h4><strong>5. Shakib-Al-Hasan</strong></h4>

<p>The all-rounder had lovely outings both with bat and ball and played a premier role in Bangladesh creating history. With the ball, he took 12 wickets in 4 innings at an average of 18.41 at 2.72 runs per over. He bagged a fifer in the second innings of the first Test and played the perfect foil for Mehedi Hasan throughout the series.</p>
<p>He was also the second highest wicket-taker in the series behind his spin counter-part. With the bat, he scored 106 runs in 4 innings and the innings of 41 in the second innings of the second Test was critical in giving his team a sizeable lead.</p>
<h4><strong>6. Mushfiqur Rahim (WK &amp; Skipper)</strong></h4>

<p>The Bangladeshi captain makes it to the squad because of his captaincy in the series more than anything else. His decisions in the second Test were game changing. In the last innings, he started with spin and continued with it for the whole of it. No fast bowlers were introduced into the attack which did not give the England batsmen chances to score freely.</p>
<p>He also scored a total of 100 runs in 4 innings with the highest score of 48 coming in the first innings of the first Test. He had a good stint behind the wickets as well as he managed to take 6 catches.</p>
<h4><strong>7. Jonny Bairstow</strong></h4>

<p>The wicket-keeper batsman had good starts on 3 occasions but failed to convert any of those into a big one. He finished with 126 runs in 4 innings and was the second highest run-getter for the English side and the fourth overall.</p>
<p>His contributions in both innings of the first Test were very vital. He scored a gutsy 52 in the first innings and 47 in the second which gave the English side stabilities on both occasions. He took 7 catches and inflicted a stumping as well to go with his batting.</p>
<h4><strong>8. Ben Stokes</strong></h4>
