They lost the opening Test by a huge 256 runs margin Sri Lanka were all over them and playing away from home the Bangladeshi team was pretty much discounted to make much of a difference against the hosts who beat Australia 3-0 in these conditions. But like they have so often done in recent past Bangladesh made a remarkable comeback in the second Test their 100th match in the format and went on to script a fabulous victory to level the series.

With their first Test win in Sri Lanka Mushfiqur Rahim &amp; Co. have shown they are not just capable of winning at home but are a competitive side away as well.

Opener Tamim Iqbal was the player who rose to the occasion for the team in both the innings. He gave them a really good start with a half century in the very first inning he scored 57 in the 1st inning of 1st Test but couldn’t quite make it count in the second and was dismissed for just 19.

In the second match he missed out on a half century by just a run in the first knock but the second inning when it mattered the most Tamim answered the team’s call and played a splendid 82-run knock to script the team’s win. He was the Man of the Match in the second Test.

Sarkar was as good as Tamim and ensured the team had an 118-run opening stand in the first inning and 67 in the second. Individually he scored 71 runs in the first knock and batted for 137 deliveries taking his time and spending enough on the crease. In the second inning when Tamim failed Soumya Sarkar continued to score consistently and got another fifty.

The trend continued in the second Test as the left-hander was once again up for the task and scored 61 runs though he couldn’t make it count in the second inning it was definitely a successful series for Sarkar.

Bangladesh featured Mominul in the first Test but batting at No.3 the most important position in the batting lineup, he had a lot of responsibilities. The burden was lowered substantially after the kind of start they had in both the innings but Mominul failed to capitalize on it.

He scored 7 and 5 in the two innings of the game and on both times was dismissed lbw to off-spinner Dilruwan Perera. He was dropped from the team in the second Test as Imrul Kayes was fit again.

He missed the first match and came back in the team to replace Mominul. Being the senior member of the team the 30-year-old was expected to control of the proceedings in the middle, he did that to an extent in the first inning with a 34 runs knock but in the second inning where they were chasing a small yet tricky 191-run target, he was dismissed for a duck.

For breaching the ICC Code of Conduct for the players Kayes was fined 15 percent of his match fees along with Tamim.

Mahmudullah was another senior player who disappointed in the series. Over the years with his performances in limited-overs cricket, he has been expected to man the middle order but he returned with scores of 8 and 0 in the first Test. So, the team management chose to include Sabbir Rahman for the conclusive match of the series.

His performance not only boosted Bangladesh in the game but will also give them a lot of backing for their decision to look over Mahmudullah. The BCB president himself decided to drop the latter and this was a great opportunity for Sabbir Rahman to prove his mettle. He did that to an extent though not as convincingly as he would have liked but 42 runs in the first inning followed by a 41-run knock in the chase helped the team to a win.

The skipper is someone all the players look up to in this Bangladesh team. He might have his problems but is leading the team to new heights at the moment. Mushfiqur played the captain’s knock of 85 in the 1st inning of the opening Test and more importantly batted 161 balls. In the next knock, he couldn’t make it count though and his 34 was of little use to the team.

It was time for Bangladesh to revive, they had conceded the first Test and a win in a historic game would have also leveled the series. After a solid start from the top order, the skipper capitalized on it in both the innings with knocks of 52 runs in the first innings to take them towards a good score and his 22 not out in the chase took the team home to a famous win.

<strong>Shakib Al Hasan – 8/10</strong>

Shakib was not up to the mark in the first Test and had average outings in both the innings. He got just 23 runs and 1 wicket in the 1st inning and followed it up with 8 runs and 2 wickets in the second. Come the second Test and Bangladesh’s GOAT was ready to turn the heat up to the opposition. In the first bowl, he picked a couple of wickets and when he came out to bat in a tough situation changed the course of the game with a stupendous 116 runs knock.

His hundred gave them the push to overhaul Sri Lanka’s total and in fact, gain a substantial lead. With the ball in the second inning, he got 4 crucial wickets and was always tough to deal with. Shakib for his all-round performance was awarded the Man of the Series award.

The 22-year-old played just the first game; he was dismissed for 5 in the first innings and though he backed it up with a much better 35-run knock was not enough to save his place in the team. The right-hander is considered a future prospect but has played just 4 Tests since his debut in 2015.

Coming in the team for the second match Mossadek made it count in the first knock where he scored a brilliant 75 runs knock a lot was then expected from him in the following inning as well but he could do little and was dismissed for 13 by the veteran Rangana Herath. The team would be happy with the way their replacement player responded but there definitely is scope to improve on the consistency.

<strong>Mehedi Hasan Miraz – 6/10</strong>

Gradually becoming the go-to man for Mushfiqur with the ball Mehedi Hasan showed he was no pushover with the bat with his 41-run knock in the first inning. He has often said that he trusts his batting abilities and put that on display in the first Test. He was at it leading their bowling charge as well and picked up a 4-wicket haul, in the second inning he once again scored runs, 28 this time though would have wanted to do better than 2 wickets.

The second Test wasn’t quite the best individually for the youngster as he picked a total of 4 wickets in the game though a team victory would please him a lot more than his own performance.

Taskin hasn’t quite been able to kick off his Test career. The 21-year-old who made his debut earlier this year just has 8 wickets after 4 Tests. In the first Test of the series, he picked 1 wicket in each inning and the team looked over him in the second match to include Taijul Islam for the second Test. The left-arm pacer has shown a lot of potential in limited-overs cricket and the national team expects him to reflect similar performances in the longer format of the game as well.

Understanding that spin was the way to go ahead in the Colombo Test, the Bangladesh team management included the left-arm spinner in the team for the game. With Mehedi picking a 4-wicket haul in the first and Shakib reflecting the same in the second there was not a lot Taijul could do. The 25-year-old playing his 13th Test ended the match with a wicket in either inning.

Right-arm medium pacer Subashis Roy made his Test debut in the recently concluded series. He wasn’t an instant hit in the longest format though, the 28-year-old bowled 24 overs in the first inning and picked just his maiden wicket, in the second inning the skipper used him just for 7 overs and he didn’t have a success. In the last match of the series he picked a wicket each in either innings.

Come the second Test and Bangladesh’s GOAT was ready to turn the heat up to the opposition. In the first bowl, he picked a couple of wickets and when he came out to bat in a tough situation changed the course of the game with a stupendous 116 runs knock.</p>
<p>His hundred gave them the push to overhaul Sri Lanka’s total and in fact, gain a substantial lead. With the ball in the second inning, he got 4 crucial wickets and was always tough to deal with. Shakib for his all-round performance was awarded the Man of the Series award.</p>

<p>The 22-year-old played just the first game; he was dismissed for 5 in the first innings and though he backed it up with a much better 35-run knock was not enough to save his place in the team. <p>Coming in the team for the second match Mossadek made it count in the first knock where he scored a brilliant 75 runs knock a lot was then expected from him in the following inning as well but he could do little and was dismissed for 13 by the veteran Rangana Herath. The team would be happy with the way their replacement player responded but there definitely is scope to improve on the consistency.</p>

<p>Gradually becoming the go-to man for Mushfiqur with the ball Mehedi Hasan showed he was no pushover with the bat with his 41-run knock in the first inning. He has often said that he trusts his batting abilities and put that on display in the first Test. He was at it leading their bowling charge as well and picked up a 4-wicket haul, in the second inning he once again scored runs, 28 this time though would have wanted to do better than 2 wickets.</p>
<p>The second Test wasn’t quite the best individually for the youngster as he picked a total of 4 wickets in the game though a team victory would please him a lot more than his own performance.</p>

<p>Taskin hasn’t quite been able to kick off his Test career. The 21-year-old who made his debut earlier this year just has 8 wickets after 4 Tests. In the first Test of the series, he picked 1 wicket in each inning and the team looked over him in the second match to include Taijul Islam for the second Test. The left-arm pacer has shown a lot of potential in limited-overs cricket and the national team expects him to reflect similar performances in the longer format of the game as well.</p>

<p>Understanding that spin was the way to go ahead in the Colombo Test, the Bangladesh team management included the left-arm spinner in the team for the game. With Mehedi picking a 4-wicket haul in the first and Shakib reflecting the same in the second there was not a lot Taijul could do. <p>Right-arm medium pacer Subashis Roy made his Test debut in the recently concluded series. He wasn’t an instant hit in the longest format though, the 28-year-old bowled 24 overs in the first inning and picked just his maiden wicket, in the second inning the skipper used him just for 7 overs and he didn’t have a success. In the last match of the series he picked a wicket each in either innings.</p>

<p>Mushfiqur Rahman wasn’t quite his lethal self in the first Test against Sri Lanka and that hurt the team quite a bit. Just three wickets in the match isn’t something they would be satisfied with on the cards from their lead pacer. Though he is young the left-arm pacer is the spearhead of the bowling attack that is full of fresh faces.</p>
<p>He bettered his performance in the second Test to pick 2 wickets in the first inning. Mushfiqur bowled a really important spell in the second inning, it was not just the 3 wickets that he picked but the way he bowled pushed Sri Lanka on the back foot.</p>

<p>They lost the opening Test by a huge 256 runs margin Sri Lanka were all over them and playing away from home the Bangladeshi team was pretty much discounted to make much of a difference against the hosts who beat Australia 3-0 in these conditions. But like they have so often done in recent past Bangladesh made a remarkable comeback in the second Test their 100th match in the format and went on to script a fabulous victory to level the series.</p>
<p>With their first Test win in Sri Lanka Mushfiqur Rahim &amp; Co. have shown they are not just capable of winning at home but are a competitive side away as well.</p>
<h4><strong>Tamim Iqbal – 8/10</strong></h4>

<p>Opener Tamim Iqbal was the player who rose to the occasion for the team in both the innings. He gave them a really good start with a half century in the very first inning he scored 57 in the 1st inning of 1st Test but couldn’t quite make it count in the second and was dismissed for just 19.</p>
<p>In the second match he missed out on a half century by just a run in the first knock but the second inning when it mattered the most Tamim answered the team’s call and played a splendid 82-run knock to script the team’s win. He was the Man of the Match in the second Test.</p>
<h4><strong>Soumya Sarkar – 7/10</strong></h4>

<p>Sarkar was as good as Tamim and ensured the team had an 118-run opening stand in the first inning and 67 in the second. Individually he scored 71 runs in the first knock and batted for 137 deliveries taking his time and spending enough on the crease. In the second inning when Tamim failed Soumya Sarkar continued to score consistently and got another fifty.</p>
<p>The trend continued in the second Test as the left-hander was once again up for the task and scored 61 runs though he couldn’t make it count in the second inning it was definitely a successful series for Sarkar.</p>
<h4><strong>Mominul Haque – 2/10</strong></h4>

<p>Bangladesh featured Mominul in the first Test but batting at No.3 the most important position in the batting lineup, he had a lot of responsibilities. The burden was lowered substantially after the kind of start they had in both the innings but Mominul failed to capitalize on it.</p>
<p>He scored 7 and 5 in the two innings of the game and on both times was dismissed lbw to off-spinner Dilruwan Perera. He was dropped from the team in the second Test as Imrul Kayes was fit again.</p>
<h4><strong>Imrul Kayes – 3/10</strong></h4>

<p>He missed the first match and came back in the team to replace Mominul. Being the senior member of the team the 30-year-old was expected to control of the proceedings in the middle, he did that to an extent in the first inning with a 34 runs knock but in the second inning where they were chasing a small yet tricky 191-run target, he was dismissed for a duck.</p>
<p>For breaching the ICC Code of Conduct for the players Kayes was fined 15 percent of his match fees along with Tamim.</p>
<h4><strong>Mahmudullah Riyad – 1/10</strong></h4>

<p>Mahmudullah was another senior player who disappointed in the series. Over the years with his performances in limited-overs cricket, he has been expected to man the middle order but he returned with scores of 8 and 0 in the first Test. So, the team management chose to include Sabbir Rahman for the conclusive match of the series.</p>

<p>His performance not only boosted Bangladesh in the game but will also give them a lot of backing for their decision to look over Mahmudullah. The BCB president himself decided to drop the latter and this was a great opportunity for Sabbir Rahman to prove his mettle. He did that to an extent though not as convincingly as he would have liked but 42 runs in the first inning followed by a 41-run knock in the chase helped the team to a win.</p>
<h4><strong>Mushfiqur Rahim – 7/10</strong></h4>

<p>The skipper is someone all the players look up to in this Bangladesh team. He might have his problems but is leading the team to new heights at the moment. Mushfiqur played the captain’s knock of 85 in the 1st inning of the opening Test and more importantly batted 161 balls. In the next knock, he couldn’t make it count though and his 34 was of little use to the team.</p>
<p>It was time for Bangladesh to revive, they had conceded the first Test and a win in a historic game would have also leveled the series. After a solid start from the top order, the skipper capitalized on it in both the innings with knocks of 52 runs in the first innings to take them towards a good score and his 22 not out in the chase took the team home to a famous win.</p>

<p>Mushfiqur Rahman wasn’t quite his lethal self in the first Test against Sri Lanka and that hurt the team quite a bit. Just three wickets in the match isn’t something they would be satisfied with on the cards from their lead pacer. Though he is young the left-arm pacer is the spearhead of the bowling attack that is full of fresh faces.</p>
