Bangladesh v Zimbabwe 2nd T20I 5 Talking Points: For Bangladesh, there was not much to accomplish as far as the recent bilateral series over Zimbabwe is concerned. But for the visitors, the series was more of a nightmare with no respite. Bangla Tigers crushed tourists in four consecutive outings and completely left them flabbergasted. In this last T20I match at Dhaka, Zimbabwe wished to register at least a consolation win in the series. Unbelievably, they achieved the same in an exciting finish with a ball to spare and 3 wickets in hand.
Earlier, Bangladesh opted to bat first on winning the toss so as to post a big score. But the hosts started off devastatingly losing 3 quick wickets in just 8 overs. Opener Tamim Iqbal hit a quick 15-ball 21 before getting caught by Chigumbura off Madziba at 4th over of the match. Bangladesh could put only 135 for 9 after 20-over. Zimbabwe chased down the target losing 7 wickets at the end of 19.5 over.
1. Anamul Haque’s solitary fight:
The entire Bangladesh team batted miserably today as no batsman could even score a half-century. It was Anamul Haque only who stood at the crease throughout the innings and batted till the last over. Haque was playing well and his runs helped the languishing Bangladesh to get to a respectable total. He led the solitary fight when other batsmen got dismissed cheaply at the other end. Haque played a fine knock of 47 from 51 balls with 3 boundaries.
2. 7 Batsmen with single digit scores:
Unbelievable it may sound, but Bangladesh batting order looked very despondent today. Apart from their top 3 batsmen, the entire middle order performed in a shocking manner. They didn’t feel the need to spend time at the crease and instead kept losing wickets frequently. Zimbabwean bowlers should be credited for the way they bowled today. They also fielded well and saved quite a few runs on the field.
3. Panyangara shines with the ball:
Zimbabwean strike bowler Tinashe Panyangara was excellent today. He bowled perfect line and length throughout the innings and exploited every opportunity to trouble the Bengali batsmen. It was Panyangar who gave nothing away to the lower middle order and helped his team restrict them to a chasable total. He kept picking up wickets at quick successions and finished his 4 over spell with 3 for 30.
4. Hossain’s splendid spell:
Bangladesh’s fast bowler Al-Amin Hossain bowled fabulously. He picked up 3 important wickets of opener Raza (5), Sean Williams (0) and Luke Jongwe (34) and ripped apart the Zimbabwe batting order. Hossain’s spell of 3 for 20 in 4 overs was the highlight of Bangladesh bowling today.
5. Waller and Mazdiva hold the nerves:
At one stage, Zimbabwe required more than 10-run per over but Malcolm Waller 40 (27b, 2 x 4s, 3 x 6s) and Neville Madziva 28* (19b, 3 x 4s, 2 x 6s) played fantastic at the end to win the match for their side. They snatched an impossible victory from the jaws of defeat. Zimbabwe won this second T20I match by 3 wickets with 1 ball to spare. At the end of 5-match bilateral series Bangladesh won 4 of them and Zimbabwe take back just one win, they secured today.
